Just My Thoughts...

Friday, December 4, 2009. Dunked in the Raven Fork. It wasn’t going to end well. It was one of those situations where you just know what the outcome will be. Dave and I were fishing the trophy section of the Raven Fork. Rain, which was not predicted to start until the afternoon, had just started to fall. It is amazing how quickly water can flow over the top of a pair of waders, soak your shirt, squeeze past a tight wader belt, run down both legs and pool in a pair of wool socks. Ick! We generally have br...

Just My Thoughts...: July 2009

http://gscpachair.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 27, 2009. ACE, it's what we're about. Sunday, July 12, 2009. Where do we go from here? I have a lot of questions. For example, what role do Chapters play in our value proposition? How can we best communicate our value proposition to the CPAs in Georgia who are not members of the Society? What changes should we make in our CPE delivery system? Is our dues structure appropriate? How should chapter operations be funded? Are we effective in our advocacy for the profession? We need to know what y...

Just My Thoughts...: Different GAAP for private companies?

http://gscpachair.blogspot.com/2009/10/different-gaap-for-private-companies.html

Wednesday, October 21, 2009. Different GAAP for private companies? If you’re one of the people who believe that financial reporting requirements have become increasingly focused on addressing the needs of users of public company financial statements, thereby making financial statement preparation by private companies too burdensome, there just may be some reason to hope for relief. Different GAAP for private companies? Do you think there should be a stand-a-lone GAAP for U.S. private companies?

Just My Thoughts...: Chapters, their role in the Mission?

http://gscpachair.blogspot.com/2009/09/chapters-their-role-in-mission.html

Thursday, September 17, 2009. Chapters, their role in the Mission? I’ve always thought of chapters as being squarely in the Community portion of the society’s mission (ACE, Advocacy, Community, Education). They are the primary place for peer group networking. The place to meet with fellow professionals and discuss the things that they are dealing with in their everyday routine; chapters are where we answer the questions, “Have you dealt with this yet”? 8220;How did you handle that”? What do you think?

Focus...Gary Julian: July 2009

http://gscpaceo.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 31, 2009. Strategic Planning is now complete! At least the PLANNING side of things; now the real work begins, which is to complete the projects agreed to by the board. There will be much written on the plan in the very near future so I won’t go into all of the objectives and initiatives that are identified in the plan, but I will say it was a good process with great participation and thoughtful discussion by our board of directors. If he wins, what a public relations story for the profession!

http://gscpaceo.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

Wednesday, November 11, 2009. 8220;Dear Folks: Sorry I haven’t written…”. That sentence is exactly how I started every letter home to my family when I was in the military. I would often think about writing, but long periods would pass before pen went to paper. And my Mom would be upset with me. This was, of course, before email. Or computers. Or electric typewriters for that matter. Yikes. Solife has been busy, meetings have been busy, lots of miles on my vehicle, and my golf game is suffering. I’l...

Friday, October 9, 2009. Well, the rains have stopped, started again, stopped and getting ready to start again. There seems to be a pattern here. Hope everyone that was affected is now recovering and getting life back on track. It is truly a working trip! The AICPA Council meeting will focus on Federal legislation issues, especially in the proposed Financial Regulation area currently proposed as well as increasingly complicated international issues such as IFRS, non-USA residents sitting for the CPA exam...

http://gscpaceo.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

Friday, August 28, 2009. Just returned to the office today from SEAS (Southeast Accounting Show) on Wednesday and Thursday. We had over a thousand people each day! It is a fun (and tiring) two days. 45 vendors/exhibitors and excellent speakers from all over the country and from right here in Georgia offered 16 hours of CPE for the two days. The economy seems to be making a mild comeback doesn’t it? So, we are breathing a little easier and hoping for a busy fall in the CPE area. It is gratifying that ...
