It is a special place, a little world tucked away, and safe. I tried hailing them on channel 68, but there was no response. We are hoping they are OK. Even that night there were no lights on the shore. March 21, 2015. March 22, 2015. Day 2 was an 8-hour sail from Marathon to a partially sheltered anchorage next to Rodriguez Key (an island on the Atlantic side of Key Largo). That was to be our launching point to the Bahamas in order to take advantage of being pushed along by the Gulf Stream, provided the wind was NOT out of the north or northeast. March 7, 2015. Day 3: You guessed it! March 8, 2015.

The new AIS worked nicely to keep us advised about the freighter traffic around us, and it was comforting that at least they could see us.
