Perhaps Gingersnaps: March 2015
http://www.perhapsgingersnaps.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Monday, March 23, 2015. Day Trip: Philly Food Crawl. It was the second day of spring. The sun was out, the birds were chirping. a fresh layer of snow covered the ground. Wait, what? Yes, it appears spring on the east coast (and midwest according to my Chicago friends) was heralded in by a snow storm this year. Yikes! I pay more for intra-Manhattan cab rides after all. So, I bid adieu to the Big Apple and two hours later said hello to the City of Brotherly Love. We were down but not out. We walked aro...

Perhaps Gingersnaps: Jordan: Eating in Amman (and Madaba)
http://www.perhapsgingersnaps.com/2015/03/jordan-eating-in-amman-and-madaba.html
Thursday, March 19, 2015. Jordan: Eating in Amman (and Madaba). For Part 2 of my Jordan posts, I wanted to highlight some of the delicious meals I had in Amman. My absolute favorite meal in Jordan was at Sufra (سفرة) on Rainbow Street. This lovely restaurant is where I finally got to try mansaf. In Brooklyn, arguably one of the best Middle Eastern restaurants in NYC, so the dish was as good as my first taste. But back to Amman. Haret Jdoudna. Lastly, there was street food (kind of). One night, we hea...

Olives - The Blog Of The Book. Saturday, 18 February 2012. A Few Gifts For Home. I hadn’t thought we were going to be acting as a private aid convoy, then felt unworthy as I remembered how the family sent little luxuries over whenever they could. Luxuries I had come to think of as everyday things – candles, toothpaste, fine soap, English tea and liquorice allsorts, the latter a particular weakness of Mariam’s, apparently. 8216;How much stuff are we taking over? Can I bring anything for them? Zalatimo is ...

frugal travel bug: April 2014
http://frugaltravelbug.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
This is a blog about traveling on a budget but still experiencing the cities and towns we visit. Monday, April 21, 2014. My sister-in-law Kim and I took a daytrip from Haifa to Akko (sometimes called Acre). It's a wonderful old city with winding paths and streets that seem to lead you nowhere, but maybe that's the point. We took the train from Haifa which cost about 19NIS for a 25 minute ride. The Akko train station is about a 20 minute walk from the old town, but with the help of GPS, we made it. My sis...
