Call For Help! | Among the Burkinabé

https://hayleyinburkina.wordpress.com/2012/04/29/call-for-help

Photo documenting my way through Peace Corps service in Burkina Faso. April 29, 2012. Before I go asking for favors, I want to thank you all for the incredible support thus far of my Peace Corps service. Sometimes it is the only thing that keeps me going! Now for that favor. Through the Peace Corps Partnerships Program (PCPP), I have designed a project along with my clinic staff and community members that can be funded with the help of all you wonderful people back home! On April 29, 2012. Hayley Anne, y...

Mado’s Magical Medicine | Among the Burkinabé

https://hayleyinburkina.wordpress.com/2012/06/16/mados-magical-medicine

Photo documenting my way through Peace Corps service in Burkina Faso. June 16, 2012. Mado’s Magical Medicine. Meet Mado. This woman has been working with me over the past few weeks making all-natural mosquito repellant cream and reaping the full benefits. It is the first time in her life that she has ever had an income. She makes me keep the money in a little jar in my house; she says she is saving it for the next time someone in the family falls sick to pay for the consultation and medicines. You are co...

101 Things to Do With Mud. My two years serving as a community development volunteer with the Peace Corps in Burkina Faso, West Africa. Sunday, February 26, 2012. Oh, oh, oh laver les mains! What's a hand-washing station you ask? Ooooh,...

Michelle in Mozambique: Nothing's easy

http://michelleinmozambique.blogspot.com/2012/09/nothings-easy.html

Wednesday, September 19, 2012. One chore that I absolutely dread here is getting my gas tank filled. I use a gas tank for cooking in my house and it runs out about once every 6 months. When that last bit of gas comes out and the stove stops working it's a sad moment since I know that I'll have to get it filled. 150 mets which is BLASPHEMY! The guy just stood there! Anyway, he finally went off and I got in the car, a little shaky from my recent encounter. Unfortunately this isn't the end of the story.

Michelle in Mozambique: December 2011

http://michelleinmozambique.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Tuesday, December 13, 2011. Things I can't wait to do in 72 hours. Things I plan to do in the United States while I am home:. Use a washing machine and dryer! Heat up some food in a microwave. Take a long, hot shower. Go skiing—pray for snow for me! Dry my hair with a hair dryer. Wash dishes in a sink with running water, or even better in a dishwasher. Eat ice cream (I'm not going to go farther into other foods that I'm craving because this list could go on forever). Go to the movies! Most volunteers don...

Michelle in Mozambique: JUNTOS WORKSHOP 2012

http://michelleinmozambique.blogspot.com/2012/08/juntos-workshop-2012.html

Wednesday, August 15, 2012. JUNTOS workshops happened in June and July. I was fortunate enough to be able to work and help out with two workshops, one in Gaza province and one in Maputo province. At each conference participants from 5-6 local JUNTOS groups were invited to participate. At the Gaza conference we had 8 participants from each group, 5 facilitators, a tech trainer, and an enthusiastic group of volunteers present. The tech trainer was wonderful in terms of technical experience. The kids had a ...

Michelle in Mozambique: Daily Challenges

http://michelleinmozambique.blogspot.com/2012/08/daily-challenges.html

Wednesday, August 15, 2012. Yesterday, I was headed into Xai-Xai on a chapa and an Asian man entered at one point on the way. There are a good number of Chinese, Japanese, or Korean people here working in Mozambique. After about 15 minutes I realized that a man in the front row was trying to talk to him and basically harassing him in the process: “Hey China! Why you have no car? In China car cost 2 dolla! 8221; I realized after a bit that this man also didn’t speak any Portuguese. It is spoken within Fra...

Friday, May 25, 2012. The Adorable Children of Mozambique. These are mostly pictures of Francelino's brothers, sisters, and cousins, but the kids here are just so cute and love having their pictures taken! I figured everyone would enjoy these. Lately things have been going well with work here, however I can't help but be constantly reminded of how the simplest tasks can be so complicated here! Since then it has worked well! It makes things so much easier! It's a lot of work, but it should be really fun!

Michelle in Mozambique: January 2012

http://michelleinmozambique.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

Friday, January 27, 2012. Photos of the destruction done to my school by the tropical storm which hit us last week. Sunday, January 22, 2012. Tuesday, January 3, 2012. I appreciated down time, hanging out with friends on the couch and watching a movie, and definitely appreciated having a car at my disposal instead of having to rely on unreliable public transportation, as I do in Mozambique. I know all of this existed in 2010 when I left, but everyone seems to be much more dependent on them. The goodbyes ...

A few weekends ago John and I got to escape down South for a few days. He was already in Melbourne for work, so i flew down to join him and we spent a couple days on The Great Ocean Road with Melbourne as the end caps. Another post on exploring The Great Ocean Road is to come, but this post is all about Melbourne. I got to Melbourne late Thursday and met John at the hotel when he got off work - the gold one. The next time we saw Melbourne was after our road trip and began here at this skate park. Joh...

Hayley in Cambodia!

Friday, June 22, 2012. Not only because things were finally moving along, but because in just a few short weeks I get to start this amazing journey and meet some of the coolest people that I will be serving with. Added bonus: we have an overnight in Bangkok, Thailand! I definitely want to get back there later on when I can have more time there but hopefully I can meet up with our friend (and my pseudo cousin), Patch, who lives there and was an exchange student in the US a few years back. Regardless, I do...

Where the "real" toga parties take place. After making our way down those treacherous steps with no falls, we toured St. Peter’s basilica. Inside the basilica was breathtaking! Recap of the last 6 weeks:. I can’t believe that the six weeks are over. The time flew by! So… our hotel in Florence did not have internet and you had to pay 10 euro for internet in our four-star hotel in Italy. So basically, I have not had internet for about a week, which is why my updates are late. But I will star...Our hotel wa...
