Stenciling and printing are used by industry to remove skill and creativity from production for commercial reasons. In my work these processes are explored for their ability to import graphic and cultural elements into the experimental arena of the can. Using manufactured items to create artwork in this way is a kind of visual pun, while also reclaiming power. I get to direct the outcome of an industrial process to suit my own ends. April 15th I was in Charlotte opening the McColl Art Center show, and Carlton took this installation to the YMI Hatch party - where it was really popular. It was meant to be writ large in Pack Place Park with 2 projectors, a coin-meter and other niceties, but was rained off. So, a success! Little disappointed that the installation isn't credited anywhere but with all that was going on that night - that week!

My work arises out of an interest in deskilled process, such as stenciling and replication. Deskilling is a core concept of the industrial revolution, but exploring stenciling within creative practice has led me to expanded definitions of drawing.The artworks on this site are labelled "drawings" but they are not created using traditional drawing methods.
