Gingerbread Loaf | Helen Bakes
https://helenbakes.wordpress.com/2012/07/07/gingerbread-loaf
Just weigh, mix, pour and bake…. July 7, 2012. This is my standby. My emergency cake, my school fete cake. A cake to sell your house because the smell is just, well…comforting, homely. Welcoming. This recipe uses a 2lb loaf tin and liner. You will need scales, liquid measurer (i.e a jug with millimetres marked on), small saucepan, mixing spoon and bowl. 150ml/1/4 pint milk (I use full fat but use whatever you have). 3 tsp ground ginger (I use heaped teaspoons – but that’s my preference). While the liquid...
Chocolate Cornflake Cakes | Helen Bakes

Just weigh, mix, pour and bake…. July 6, 2012. Let’s start with something easy. No oven. Just a mixing bowl, spoon and either a microwave or a saucepan on a hob (to melt the chocolate). 100g butter cut into small pieces so it melts evenly. 200g milk chocolate, broken up (Cadbury’s Dairy Milk is the only one I use.). 150g cornflakes (or rice krispies if you prefer). Once melted, take off heat and pour in the cornflakes/rice krispies. Stir and coat all the cornflakes/krispies. And that’s it. Easy. You are ...
Simple Chocolate Cake | Helen Bakes

Just weigh, mix, pour and bake…. September 2, 2012. I’ve played about with it and added brown sugar, melted dark chocolate and milk to my mum’s original recipe. You will need scales, two sandwich tins, an electric mixer (you can do by hand with a spoon though), a bowl to melt the chocolate and a spatula. 2oz/50g light brown soft sugar. 8oz/225g butter (yes butter. Slightly softened (but not melted). 7oz/200g self raising flour. 200g bar of dark chocolate (I use Green and Blacks). If still wet on top or d...

Just weigh, mix, pour and bake…. July 6, 2012. Have you ever watched a television programme about baking that made it look easy, bought the book, read the introduction and closed the book with a snap? You sigh. It all looks unbelievably complicated. Maybe I won’t bother then. Baking appears to be very technical. It seems you have to have the right flour, or a certain piece of equipment, or even a particular oven. Oh good grief you haven’t sieved the flour. But baking is for you. For friends, family&#...
Ginger & All-Bran Cookies | Helen Bakes
https://helenbakes.wordpress.com/2012/07/06/ginger-all-bran-cookies
Just weigh, mix, pour and bake…. Ginger and All-Bran Cookies. July 6, 2012. This has become a firm family favourite after copying it down from the back of a All-bran box years (and years) ago. (Based on my writing I must have been in my early teens). I haven’t put the recipe in grams as I’ve never made it in grams and wouldn’t want to get my conversions wrong. Most scales now have both measurements on. 2 tbsp golden syrup. 12oz self raising flour. 1tsp bicarbonate of soda. 1 egg, beaten. Fill in your det...

Writer, reader and cake baker with a serious chicken addiction. Loves planting trees. Let’s Go Outside: The Morning Routine. This morning the buzzard flew over and landed in the tree next to me. He (or she) likes to watch the chickens. During the day he flies from one spot to another in a triangle around the orchard. Keeping an eye on those pesky hens. Which are, incidentally, far too fat for him to pick up. (I hope.). Planning for the Year Ahead. This blog has moved! January 14, 2015 at 7:44 pm. Notify ...
