Thursday, April 30, 2015. Was a bit 'back to front' weather-wise in this area! The month started off warm and sunny, fooling us all into thinking Spring had arrived, but then got progressively cooler, finishing up with a wintry blast of snow and sub-zero temperatures more akin to February! The vast majority of our remaining winter visiting birds departed by mid - month, whilst summer visiting birds poured in throughout, helped by the frequent southerly winds. Cairngorm Mountains and moorland at dawn.

Saw the early arrival of spring continue in this area, and although we had a few dawn frosts and some occasional light snowfall on the mountain tops, much of the month saw us enjoy decent amounts of sunshine and temperatures regularly well into double figures - great safari weather! The vast majority of our remaining winter visiting birds departed early in the month, whilst summer visiting birds poured in throughout, helped by the frequent southerly winds. Monday, June 30, 2014. Mammal species day-lists ranged between 6 and 10, with early starts usually providing the best sightings. I am proud to say that all the pictures shown below were taken either by myself or my clients on my safaris during June. Local speciality bird species seen regularly this month included: Osprey. Friday, November 29, 2013. Local/upland speciality bird species seen regularly included Dipper. See pic below) and White-Tailed Eagle. Whilst we also managed less frequent or fleeting glimpses of Crossbill. Mammal species seen this month included Red Deer. November is, in my opinion, THE month for seeing raptors in this area. On the Eagles menu! And including staples such as Rabbit and Hares, and even Salmon, we have our best chances of seeing sought - after large birds of prey such as Golden Eagle.
