There is also a large amount of holly, hawthorn, birch, and some willow and alder at lower levels. The south side of the valley still has some conifers, originally planted back in the 1960's. History of the Woods. History of the Woods. How to get there:. Driving along the A3052 towards Seaton and Colyford,. Turn right signed Seaton at the Seaton Heights Esso filling station. Drive a couple of hundred metres and park on the right-hand side of the road in the picnic area car park. The entrance to the reserve is a short walk back tothe main road, opposite the road junction. The footpath is clearly signposted. Walk down the edge of the field and the entrance of the wood is directly in front of you.

The funds for the purchase of Holyford Woods,an area of 56 acres, were raised by public subscription after a campaign was started in late 2001. This was supported by many local societies and Seaton Parish Council. The Woodland Preservation Society. Was formed with the support of the Axe Vale and District Conservation Society and, with a major grant from the East Devon District Council, the woods were saved from the threat of development.
