Home(steading) Is Where The Heart Is. A place to collect and share knowledge, as I move on my journey toward self-sufficiency. Friday, December 14, 2012. So, since it's winter, what do I do? I am not going to be able to go out and plant anything, and there isn't a lot of things to do around here at the moment outside of the house, so I am going to start sharing things inside the house! So here is my "recipe" for chicken noodle soup. Chicken thighs (boiled and peeled into strips of chicken). J R R Tolkien.

Home(steading) Is Where The Heart Is. A place to collect and share knowledge, as I move on my journey toward self-sufficiency. Tuesday, August 28, 2012. There's gold in these hills! I harvested some of this today for herbal teas this winter. I have been reading up on it and I have come to the conclusion that having some dried leaves/flowers stored in a jar would be invaluable! Of course the herbs will take a couple of weeks to dry, and then I will have my first trial run! Posted by Shannon Thayer. So, I ...

Home(steading) Is Where The Heart Is. A place to collect and share knowledge, as I move on my journey toward self-sufficiency. Monday, September 29, 2014. You Ferment For Me. Although, it's been a long time in the making, I've recently started really getting into fermenting foods. I made a batch of pickles last year, and while I really enjoyed their taste, they were soggy, they were not spicy, and the recipe I was following suggested water bath canning! However, I made a 2 gallon crock, and now I am face...

It’s giveaway time! December 1, 2014. Ben Aron is the inventor of the EZ Tofu Press. And is a person who has been gracious enough to let me do a giveaway of his product over the years. I first bought the EZ Tofu Press back in 2013. I was sick of how long it took to press the water out of the tofu, not to mention the mess of soggy dishtowels and the precarious stack of books and cans to weigh the whole thing down. I am looking forward to hearing from you all! 5 responses to “It’s giveaway time! December 1...

Super duper spicy soup and boozy hot chocolate! January 28, 2013. I have been meaning to make this post for over a week now! I have been a regular gadabout for the last week or so and I haven’t had time to sit down and write this out. If your part of the planet has been hit by extremely cold temps, then this is a post for you. In my area of NY, last week we experienced very cold temps with wind chills as low as -29 below. This spicy soup and boozy hot cocoa should warm you right up. Super duper spicy soup.

Happy (almost) New Year! December 31, 2012. Happy New Year to those of you in different parts of the planet. I had a really relaxing weekend, finally. Mark and I bought a new vacuum and we deep cleaned our furniture. Really exciting, eh? My area got hit with a ton of snow this week, totally making up for virtually snow free winter we had last year. I vowed to not leave my house after I got home from work on Saturday and that’s exactly what I did. I had mine with a Scotch toddy. I mentioned snow earlier i...

Homesteading in the Dust

Homesteading in the Dust. Saturday, June 6, 2015. Homestead Round Up: June 6th, 2015. So much has been going on and I've been too busy to post much. I went on an expedition around town to gather some supplies for a future project:. I love a full truck bed! I also found a gorgeous chair next to a dumpster! Needs recovering, but it's sturdy. I removed the old furnace and built a pantry unit! It's pretty sturdy. I'd love to add in another shelf or two, but we'll see. Now they're enjoying their new coop:.
