Steven's Bees: February 2013
http://stevensbees.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Backyard Beekeeping in New England since 2008. Friday, February 15, 2013. And then there were two. This has been a rough winter for the bees. We've had many cold cold days, with record snow falls:. During the winter, we had some "visitors" who we helped out with some bird feed:. We also had as many as 6 squirrels also enjoying the winter feasts. I added more candy to the two hives which remained. Let's see if they survive. Posted by Steven C. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Steven's Bees: April 2013
http://stevensbees.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Backyard Beekeeping in New England since 2008. Saturday, April 27, 2013. First Inspection of the Season. Here it is, the end of April, and I am just getting to my first full inspection of the hives. This weather has been so screwy and cold that even in the 60's today, the bees weren't out in force. I figure we are about one month behind in the seasons (i.e. we are now where we should have been on March 27). Here's my hives as they are now, and you can see where I am planning on putting them temporarily.

Steven's Bees: Hive Checks
http://stevensbees.blogspot.com/2015/05/hive-checks.html
Backyard Beekeeping in New England since 2008. Saturday, May 30, 2015. I've been able to check the hives a few times in May. On 5/2 I ran out to Sutton to check things out. The worker bees had released the queen, and things were looking fine. She's on this frame - can you spot her? She's sporting a nice blue spot! I am feeding with leftover honey (from the dead hives of last year), diluted with water (to better simulate nectar). On 5/17 I checked out the backyard hives. They have even capped some honey (...

Steven's Bees: September 2013
http://stevensbees.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Backyard Beekeeping in New England since 2008. Saturday, September 21, 2013. Bee Meeting and Inspection - 9-21-2013. Today was an outdoor bee meeting at Keown Orchards. In Sutton. The weather is starting to get a little cold, and today was a windy day. The bees at the orchard were particularly nasty as well, due to the weather and the fact that there wasn't any nectar available. Here are some pictures:. There's a bee on some goldenrod:. The bees were also irritating the observers, so I didn't stick around.

Steven's Bees: June 2014
http://stevensbees.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Backyard Beekeeping in New England since 2008. Sunday, June 1, 2014. Wow - I didn't realize how much I've been neglecting the blog lately. A lot has happened since the last post, so instead of writing long summaries (which I probably can't remember anyway), I'll just post a catch-up blog. It turns out the fall and winter got ahead of me and I didn't get things done like I'd like. The two hives in my backyard made it through the winter, miraculously! So they will be ready to go strong in the spring.

Steven's Bees: Mass Bee Day 2015
http://stevensbees.blogspot.com/2015/06/mass-bee-day-2015.html
Backyard Beekeeping in New England since 2008. Saturday, June 20, 2015. Mass Bee Day 2015. Today was the Mass Beekeeper's annual Field Day. It's an all-day activity held at the University of Massachusetts Agronomy Farm in South Deerfield, MA. This is my 3rd or 4th time going - they have a variety of sessions appropriate for anyone from the first year beginner to the veteran beekeeper. I'll mention a little about the sessions I attended. I took lots of pictures, so this post has a lot of photos! The field...

Steven's Bees: Sutton Check 6-07-2015
http://stevensbees.blogspot.com/2015/06/sutton-check-6-07-2015.html
Backyard Beekeeping in New England since 2008. Sunday, June 7, 2015. I decided to run out to Sutton to check the hive there. It's been a couple of weeks. Since I needed to add a super on my backyard hive, I took over a super and 10 frames just in case (I live 25 minutes away, so I have to pre-plan what I need and take it with me. In this case, you'll see I didn't plan enough). Took out the first frame, and they are doing great at collecting nectar/honey:. And there was a great brood pattern:. I left the ...

E Bees: I like bees.
http://sheebees.blogspot.com/2009/05/i-like-bees.html
Tuesday, May 5, 2009. I went to bee school. I read from the internet. I've read books, newsletters, and magazines. And the more I learn, the greater my sense of awe and respect grows for the honeybees. They have got to be the coolest creatures on the planet. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
