Meeting the terracotta warriors | Hong Kong High
https://hongkonghigh.wordpress.com/2011/07/04/meeting-the-terracotta-warriors
Enter the (water) dragon →. Meeting the terracotta warriors. July 4, 2011. I first came face to face with the General and other ranks of the terracotta army at the British Museum a couple of years ago. I learnt that a Chinese farmer unearthed the first remains in his field, where they lay undisturbed for centuries (the figures date back as far as 210 BC). Cue the world’s largest excavation, which has barely even scratched the surface of what historians believe is still to be uncovered. Notify me of new p...
Hike Hong Kong | Hong Kong High

Meeting the terracotta warriors →. May 19, 2011. I’ve written before about my surprise at discovering just how green Hong Kong is once you get beyond the streets and high rises. Despite growing up in Devon, surrounded by coast paths, hills and moorland, it’s here that I’ve done the most hiking. Part of the Hong Kong trail. I’m happy to say I’ve only encountered birds, the odd wild boar and most recently packs of wild monkeys, which, as long as you’re not obviously carrying food, won’t bother you and will...

Newer posts →. November 28, 2010. Warning: this may read like an advertorial by the Hong Kong tourist board). We’ve been lucky to have 3 sets of visitors come to stay recently – all choosing the cooler Autumn months to make the visit. Definitely wise, with bright, blue skies preferable to torrential downpours, steam-room humidity and blazing sunshine. A junk trip (one perk of corporate life your very own private boat hire! Dim Sum at City Hall: the full experience, with locals setting up camp for the day...

Meeting the terracotta warriors. Enter the (water) dragon. January 17, 2012. It’s hard to believe that nearly a year has passed and we’ll again be celebrating Chinese New Year, this time saying farewell to the rabbit and hello to the dragon. These last days seem to be a frenzy of lai-see-stuffing. This seems a little extreme but explains the number of super-short hair cuts I’ve spotted recently. Of all the zodiac signs, the dragon is seen as the most desirable year to be born in. One response to “ ...

Heading home for Christmas. Planes, trains and autorickshaws →. January 8, 2011. It will soon be Chinese New Year the most important traditional Chinese festivity. Families come together to reminisce about the past, welcome in the new Lunar year, and with it, new fortune. A custom at this time of year is to give cash gifts in small, red envelopes(Cantonese:. As simple as this gesture sounds, it’s fraught with complications for the expat and raises many questions around the correct etiquette:. I’ve done s...

The Modern Traditionalist: Happy Chinese New Year
http://www.themoderntraditionalist.com/2011/02/happy-chinese-new-year.html
Sunday, February 6, 2011. Happy Chinese New Year. I started this post on Chinese New Year and am just now posting it, sorry for the out of date info! There's always next year! I work with a lovely Chinese couple who wanted to celebrate the new year with us so they brought lunch for the whole office on Wed. Isn't that sweet! I must admit I was a little confused to walk into the kitchen and find ham sanwiches and chips and salsa, although grateful, I thought "what does this have to do with Chinese New Year?

HaKaHa - Der Hongkonghesse
HaKaHa - Der Hongkonghesse. Mittwoch, 31. Dezember 2008. Finally. at home.

A Hiatus from Hong Kong: A Brief Break Before the Real World. Just another WordPress.com weblog. May 6, 2009. So I decided to go East and learn the bond business. Posted by MD under Uncategorized. I only worry that we won’t remember where this whole thing started. Quick post ...
