Mum says she is very busy sorting out the new house (boring), working (even more boring) and planning the new garden (crazy! This one has a lovely, large, clover and daisy filled lawn for us to play on. We’ve waited five years for a lawn. So, what can we tell you? However, by day we can scent and see hare and rat, horse (there are even people doing something called dressage out the front window on the chu...

Jump to main navigation and login. Saturday, 02 March 2013 00:00. Hi, I’m Rosie and I’m passionate about my garden, plants generally and about garden design/creation. I have considered myself a trainee gardener/ gardener since 2000 when, on returning from working and living for five years in Mumbai, India, I bought my first house with a garden, in London. The garden was very small (7 x 7 metres), but I wanted to make it lovely. My life is now filled with my family, Pickle and Lottie (my two small dogs), ...

Jump to main navigation and login. Bees and the like. I feed the birds and don’t own a cat, so the garden is usually full of them. The major residents and visitors are just what you would expect ie robins, blue and great tits, sparrows of various sorts and blackbirds. Through regular feeding of nyjer seed I also have large families of goldfinches and greenfinches. Collar doves and pigeons of course also try to eat from the feeders. And this is a video compilation of birds washing and feeding in the garden.

Being Libra

Jump to main navigation and login. Thursday, 15 January 2015 17:32. Decisions, decisions, decisions – do you love them or hate them? I love them but, as a fairly typical Libran, I find them tricky. I can see both sides of almost any argument. I don't really believe in any of this stuff - mankind divided into twelve types - but I do seem to be a typical Libran. New aquaintances guess I am a stronger sign, like Leo or Taurus, but other Librans spot me a mile off. Very weird. A reminder of the garden plan.

Jump to main navigation and login. Monday, 16 March 2015 18:42. Planting commandments and plans. When I started writing this blog, as the snowdrops appeared, I thought I could cover all of what I have done so far, plant-wise, in one blog but I can’t. There’s too much to say, so I need to divide it into a few. This one is about the theory and Commandments of major planting decisions plus the feel I want to create: colours, textures, shapes, sizes etc. And the shadier parts of the garden, mostly closer to ...

Devoted to roses
http://www.rosiesbackgarden.co.uk/index.php/en/component/k2/item/392-devoted-to-roses
Jump to main navigation and login. Tuesday, 28 April 2015 19:28. I am devoted to roses - as is this blog. I think roses are some of the best value plants in any garden because, if you buy well, they flower from May/June to the first frosts (which almost no other plant does), they look beautiful, smell fantastic, encourage wildlife, will climb or scramble, stand tall and proud, or create a bush, groundcover, hedge etc and do almost anything you want - except be a tree! Why wouldn't you have roses? I felt ...
