Grindlow

Little Hucklow, Grindlow, Windmill and Coplow Dale. Grindlow is a hamlet of a dozen or so houses and farmsteads and lies just to the south east of Great Hucklow. It is a familiar stop for groups of walkers passing through from Foolow, Wardlow and Abney. At its centre lies Grind Low, a small limestone knoll surmounted by a few trees. Laying claim to being the highest pub in Derbyshire, The Barrel Inn is a traditional country inn with the cosy and peaceful oak-beamed bar retaining all of its old-fashioned charm. Little Hucklow, Grindlow, Windmill and Coplow Dale. Across the valley from Great Hucklow is Little Hucklow, a small limestone village. Its crescent shape nestles into the hillside. In the village centre is a small Primitive Methodist Sunday School, built in 1854 by public subscription. It is now privately owned. Great Hucklow and its surrounding area grew to importance due to the geographical location on a lead vein which runs from Tideslow to Eyam, and its lead mining history has had a significant impact on the landscape and the heritage of the area. There is also a selection of real ales at all times. The pub also provides B&B accommodation. Please visit their website. The Queen Anne is closed on Mondays (Except Bank Holidays).
