The New Thought Fox: October 2012
http://postjazz.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
The New Thought Fox. Sunday, 14 October 2012. Pumpkin Gnocchi with rosemary and cobnuts. The squashes were great when I showed up at the market a week or two ago and I bought a huge kabocha with a lot of enthusiasm and no plan at all. Some of it became soup (some of which is still in the bottom of the freezer), and more became curry, and quite a lot became these gnocchi. Squash goes a long way between two hungry squash eaters. This recipe makes enough for four, but they freeze really well if you lay them...

The New Thought Fox: Success! (with pitta)
http://postjazz.blogspot.com/2012/07/success-with-pitta.html
The New Thought Fox. Monday, 23 July 2012. We'll skate over the dental experiences of Friday and the fact that my lover is still 5,000 miles away - though the first of those was less bad than it could have been, and the second, well, he seems to be having fun and sends me a lot of photos.*. But Success with Pitta, on the third attempt, was my crowning glory. I cheered when I saw the balloon in the oven. The key is a blisteringly hot oven. Adapted from The Bread Bible by Rose Levy Beranbaum. Keep going fo...

Quodlibeta: July 2014

Saturday, July 26, 2014. I'm looking for an introduction to philosophy text that meets the following criteria:. 1 It's arranged topically, not historically. 2 It nevertheless deals with these topics by going over how various thinkers throughout history have addressed them - although not exhaustively of course. 3 It's actually introductory. For people who haven't taken philosophy before. I had used Does the Center Hold? Discuss this post at the Quodlibeta Forum. Posted by Jim S. Links to this post. I am a...

Quodlibeta: April 2015
http://bedejournal.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, April 29, 2015. Is the book trade too left wing for its own good? I like to drop into the excellent Riverside Bookshop. On Tooley Street, London SE1 (late of Hays Galleria). It has a good selection and dedicated staff (even if they blot their copybook slightly by not stocking my book. Then I had to ask myself, what are the current bestselling conservative books? As a help to bookshops who'd like to sell more non-fiction books to their centre-right customers, here are five excellent titles that...

Quodlibeta: March 2014

Wednesday, March 19, 2014. Had an online debate with Keith Parsons. Considering that they had had some minor hostility issues with each other previously, it's remarkable how respectful and cordial they are, although it started with some less-than-polite forays. Here are the elements, and the comments are worth reading too:. Keith Parsons: Can the arguments of the "new atheists" be made stronger? Ed Feser: Four questions for Keith Parsons. Parsons: Answering Prof. Feser. Posted by Jim S. Links to this post.

Thursday, December 11, 2014. The Perils of Earthquake Prediction and Political Hubris. Six seismologists were finally acquitted last month after they made rash comments before Aquila earthquake of 2009. They were victims of unreasonable expectations and not scientific ignorance. At 3am on 6 April 2009, an earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale devastated the medieval city of L’Aquila in the Apennine Mountains of central Italy. The Aquila seven joined Galileo as paradigms of scientific martyrdom.

The New Thought Fox: August 2010
http://postjazz.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
The New Thought Fox. Monday, 23 August 2010. I realised that if I had a child, it wouldn't be mine it would be ours - of me and its father (or other mother, but that's getting more complex). I wouldn't be alone with it. Sounds silly, right? Responsible. It halves the burden, like a partnership is meant to - and you have to have some knowledge of a truly mutual relationship to understand that. It's only fairly recently that I've begun to have some inkling as to what one of them might be, too. I'm less ant...

The New Thought Fox. Sunday, 30 October 2011. Getting up at 5.30 on your birthday, or How To Make Croissants. So I spent 3 days making croissants for my birthday. Leaven - sourdough batter, made with equal parts water and 00 flour and a spoonful of my sourdough culture. Poolish is. Monday 17th October, about 7.20am.
