LARGE SCALE UTILITY WIND POWER. The HyperTilt system is currently designed so that it can be scaled up to include multiple sets of very large inexpensive blades in order to output power in the MW scale. HOW DOES HYPERTILT SYSTEM WORK? The key to the HyperTilt design is the use of self-rotating blades. The blades automatically rotate 90 degrees and minimize the amount of blade surface area exposed to oncoming wind. A track is designed such that the elevation, (up and down height), changes throughout the loop. HOW DID WE GET INTO WIND POWER? While investigating new product development opportunities outside of nuclear, Mike Tortorello came up with the vision for the HyperTilt mechanism. A business case was generated that laid out the investment requirements along with the potential return associated with a HyperTilt launch.
