Lockport Power" was a three-story brick building erected around 1920 as a power and steam generating station for the paper mills and related industries in the Lowertown district of Lockport. Even though EPA wasn't granted access to the property until April 2014, demolition began in July at a cost of $500,000. Church of the Transfiguration. Lockport Train Depot (11). Holy Land USA (51). After Macfadden's death in 1955, the hotel was acquired by New York City hotelier William Fromcheck, and operated as "Bernarr Macfadden's Castle on the Hill". But once again, a decline in popularity set in, and this time it was irreversible. The end came in 1971, when the doors of the health spa closed for the last time. Edit* On 10-7-09 I received an email from the great-great-great grandson of James Caleb Jackson (how cool is that? Church of the Transfiguration. Lockport Train Depot (11).

Meyer Malting Complex is the only 20th century Buffalo facility near the Erie Canal. Established in 1909, the complex is an example of H.R. Wait's early work. The elevator had a capacity of 500,000 bushels in 14 bins. The elevator features the first concrete workhouse constructed in Buffalo. In addition to the malting operations, Meyer purchased the 40 year old Spencer Kellogg linseed oil elevating and mill site in 1954. The acquisition added a huge water-based shipping and processing plant to it's h...

In 1864 Dr. James White, a leading physician in Buffalo, proposed to the state legislature that an asylum be established in Western New York. Largely because of his efforts, the Buffalo State Hospital organization came into existence in 1869. The Richardson Center Corporation reopened portions of the main building for tours in 2011. For more information on tours and their future plans for the complex visit their website: http:/ richardson-olmsted.com/. Church of the Transfiguration. Holy Land USA (51).

After the terminal closed, the art deco building fell through the hands of various private owners who hoped to do something with the massive structure, to no avail. The 1990s saw the systematic stripping of the building of all decorative elements and fixtures by the 2nd private owner. By then, the building was left wide open to looters, vandals, and Buffalo winters. Please don't break in. Church of the Transfiguration. Lockport Train Depot (11). Holy Land USA (51). Hometownness: Old guitars and shared stories | Curious Feet
https://curiousfeet.wordpress.com/2013/10/02/hometownness-old-guitars-and-shared-stories
Grab your comfy shoes, and let’s start exploring. Hometownness: Old guitars and shared stories. When I walked into the club, a man dressed like a dapper cowboy looked at me like he was trying to figure out if he knew me, but it was dark and I didn’t think I knew anyone who looked like that. When he came out onstage playing washboard and a harmonica with the band, I thought. I know those eyes. He kept holding my gaze. It took me half the set to figure out:. We both grew up in Tower Grove South. Question i...
The Kohrman Report: April 2008
http://kohrman.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
Leader of the a-team. Tuesday, April 08, 2008. The other day I paid a return trip to a little place I had first visited. The Acme Coke plant is just about all that remains of Chicago's steel industry. But not for long, its days are numbered. In fact, my previous visit was cut short due to demolition activity. So I was unsure how much I would be able to see, or how much was left to see. The wooden quenching tower still rises above the scene like a black skeleton. Even taller are the twin concrete smok...

Leader of the a-team. Sunday, July 27, 2008. All of the left field structure, seen here, has now been demolished. Http:/ www.savetigerstadium.org/. Saturday, July 19, 2008. With the end of the 1999 season the Tigers foolishly abandoned one of the greatest and most historic ballparks ever built. There still may be a chance to save sections of the ballpark by homeplate. The Kohrman Report: June 2008
http://kohrman.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html
Leader of the a-team. Wednesday, June 18, 2008. I make no secret of the fact that hotels are my favorite kind of building. It is hard to say why I find them so interesting, but I do. And finding new hotels to photograph always makes for a banner day. Still, the Waldo was one of the finest hotels around for many years. But it eventually shut down and was converted to apartments and offices. These in turn have closed, leaving the old hotel abandoned and falling apart. The second floor was a mix of large ro...
The Kohrman Report: February 2008
http://kohrman.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html
Leader of the a-team. Friday, February 29, 2008. February was a rather slow month for my camera. I really haven't had any insane expeditions to talk about. Sorry, nothing new and exciting. But I did make a couple of return trips to the abandoned air force base. My first return trip was alone. DK went to an abandoned building alone? You would at least think that the different sections of the building would have had corridors painted in different colors. And I might add that each wing has double-corridors&...
The Kohrman Report: October 2007
http://kohrman.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html
Leader of the a-team. Thursday, October 25, 2007. Demolition of Jacob Riis Elementary began a few weeks ago. Day by day a near-century old landmark is making way for a park. Why settled for the view out the living room window? Wednesday, October 10, 2007. But I know fresh photos of ruins are demanded of me, so when I stumbled upon the long-abandoned ruins of the Wo Wo Wash while walking to check out the first night's venue I knew I had set aside my selfish fun and resolved to crack it. Too bad those fudd...

The Kohrman Report: The Birdcage
http://kohrman.blogspot.com/2009/06/birdcage.html
Leader of the a-team. Wednesday, June 03, 2009. Every now and then you come across a building that is a true time-capsule, a wonderfully intact example of past construction. One such example can be found in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania; the People's National Bank. And after sitting empty for several years, fortunately life is now being breathed back into it. I mean, wow! The upper floors are equally impressive. In addition to the iron birdcage elevators, there is a large open staircase with beautiful iro...
