The Gallery houses a stunning collection of New Zealand and international art, which has grown to over 1000 pieces. The art works range from early to contemporary, and showcase the vast and changing nature of artistic endeavour. The permanent collection includes a number of works by well-known New Zealand greats such as Charles F Goldie, Rita Angus, Colin McCahon and Ralph Hotere, as well as many contemporary artists including Gregor Kregar and Alvin Pankhurst. Anderson Park, originally known as Victoria Park, was once the home to the late Sir Robert and Lady Anderson. They bought the property in 1910, and began building the homestead in January 1924. Designed by Christchurch architect Cecil Woods, the home is Neo-Georgian in style and is set in 24 hectares of landscaped gardens, lawns and native bush.
