Where's the Teacher?: What is the purpose of public education?
http://invisibleteacher.blogspot.com/2008/12/what-is-purpose-of-public-education.html
One invisible teacher trying to make sense of it all. Saturday, December 6, 2008. What is the purpose of public education? No, really, I want to know. I know what I think the purpose should be, but I'm pretty sure that the current system is some sort of purposeless monster stumbling around like a headless chicken while we argue about whether to bring it back to life with electricity, clockwork or good old-fashioned black magic. What do you think is our purpose? The purpose of public education? Well, that...

Where's the Teacher?: Political Parties Project: Student Feedback
http://invisibleteacher.blogspot.com/2013/03/political-parties-project-student.html
One invisible teacher trying to make sense of it all. Monday, March 25, 2013. Political Parties Project: Student Feedback. The first survey question was "What was the best part about the project? The themes that I saw in students responses included working in a group, being creative, creating new ideas on politics, and learning through experience. Some particularly interesting student responses to the question were:. Giving students a voice. I then asked them "What was the worst part about the project?
Where's the Teacher?: September 2009
http://invisibleteacher.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
One invisible teacher trying to make sense of it all. Friday, September 18, 2009. One of the great things about planning for this school year was going back through my various journals, notes and so on from the last couple of school years. It was fun to see notes to myself to try ideas that I had done last year, and had made work. I really got a sense of making actual progress in my teaching skills over the last couple of years. Last year the big thing was trying the History. Another example is that in W...
Where's the Teacher?: June 2009
http://invisibleteacher.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
One invisible teacher trying to make sense of it all. Monday, June 29, 2009. While taking a break, I've been catching up on my edu-blogs a bit. I'm sad to see that Dan Meyer has decided to go PhD. And stop teaching, although I'm sure it's the right move for him. Still, a lot of my experimenting with assessment this year is owed to his insightful rants on How Math Must Assess. Of course, I have to go in very different directions with what I do, history being rather different than math. :).

Where What We Do… | Slam Teaching

A blog about radical teaching. Schools Needn’t Fail. Of Rules and Relevancy →. January 8, 2008. Where What We Do…. By Sean Michael Morris. At the same time, and perhaps exactly in the spirit of this blog and the notion of slam teaching, I feel I’m learning to teach for the first time. Part of this may come from the fact that, at least within the pages of this blog and within the quiet introspective walls of my own investigation of the practice, I am beholden to no one. I am free to invent. Will be readin...

A blog about radical teaching. Let Go of the Bar. The Specter of the Author →. January 22, 2009. Hey Texas, which one of you is Gregor Mendel? By Sean Michael Morris. The New York Times. Today reported a new battle in an old war has begun. In Texas, educators, scientists, and creationists are meeting again to wrangle over how evolution should be taught in schools. The article. Let’s take for instance the recent case of a young girl. It doesn’t appear so. I’m not being naive. In fact, I’m ...I say, bring ...

A blog about radical teaching. Where What We Do…. Message in a Bottle? January 11, 2008. Of Rules and Relevancy. By Sean Michael Morris. An instructor comes to me with a quibble about late policies in my department’s composition courses. I’m feeling ornery and rushed when he e-mails, I’m feeling curious and obstinate, so I ask him: What is your pedagogical reason for penalizing late work? I know when I ask this that it’s not really a question that needs asking. Is it? In part, I’m being deliberately obno...

Oh, and look, there’s a honey pot on his head. Knows – work sucks. You are not in kindergarten here. On the other hand, you are authorized to play, invent, create, and explore. It’s the best of both worlds. All the respect of an adult, all the freedom of a three-year-old. Why shouldn’t this be the case? To open up the world to our students, we have...

To be honest, I don’t know if this post should find a home here at Slam Teaching, or if it belongs more on my personal blog. I have to admit some disappointment. I am disappointed by my latest post (“ of Rules and Relevancy. I still don’t think I’m being clear.
