Ivebeenreadinglately: More from Penelope Fitzgerald's Charlotte Mew and Her Friends

http://ivebeenreadinglately.blogspot.com/2015/05/more-from-penelope-fitzgeralds.html

I've Been Reading Lately is what it sounds like. I spend most of my free time reading, and here's where I write about what I've read. Tuesday, May 26, 2015. More from Penelope Fitzgerald's Charlotte Mew and Her Friends. It was the great time for small, thin-paper, verse anthologies, with a ribbon for a bookmark, which went easily into the side-pocket, and were taken for long tramps in the fresh air, returning with grass and pressed flowers between the pages. Poems of Love and Earth. One of Fitzgerald's g...

I've Been Reading Lately is what it sounds like. I spend most of my free time reading, and here's where I write about what I've read. Wednesday, June 24, 2015. After a lengthy period of what can only be described as dithering, summer seems finally to have settled on Chicago. So it's appropriate that the mail has brought me correspondence from a vacation getaway: my mysterious Texan correspondent has appeared again, this time with a postcard of the seaside. There are instances, albeit infrequent, in which...

I've Been Reading Lately is what it sounds like. I spend most of my free time reading, and here's where I write about what I've read. Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Thinking more about utopias with Darran Anderson's. After I wrote last week's post on utopias- need I even append "failed," or does "utopia" imply that these days? I began reading Darran Anderson. S idiosyncratic, vertiginously referential, overstuffed, pleasantly oracular and fascinating new book. And to some, the pull of order never lessens- the...

About Underneath the Bunker. Piercing the Mists of Obscure European Culture. The Late, Sort-Of Great, Georgy Riecke. August 5, 2015. Guest author: Jean-Pierre Sertin. Footnotes by Doris Boshchov. It’s been three months [1]. I think, since Doris Boshchov asked me to write this memorial to her late husband Georgy Riecke. I would like to say that it took me all this time to get over my grief, but that would be dishonest [2]. So: to task. You have probably heard by now that the late Georgy Riecke has lef...

que fais-tu là, Ôh toi qui n’est pas d’ici ?: fun things to read on a saturday

http://life-altering.blogspot.com/2008/08/fun-things-to-read-on-saturday.html

Que fais-tu là, Ôh toi qui n’est pas d’ici? Saturday, August 30, 2008. Fun things to read on a saturday. I kind of agree with this. It’s not that I don’t think Catcher is worthy, it’s that it’s too worthy.  . Look down at the “newer”, more “relevant” selections.  . Other than Junot Diaz, and maybe the Virgin Suicides, which of these has serious staying power? Maybe if I don't buy music or books for a month or two, I wouldn't feel so terrible about buying this unbelievable superbook. Also, a very cool idea.
