Itinerant Sabbatical

Friday, September 7, 2012. The route will take us all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. We plan on crossing the Cascades via McKenzie Pass and the Rockies near Jackson Hole, Wyoming. We hope to cross the continental divide before snow makes the route impassable for bikes. Favorite Photos from the PCT. Thursday, September 6, 2012. I finished my hike- I walked every step of the way from California to Canada! I made it to the border late on the 31st of August. When I arrived, I was ecstatic! Stehekin is a smal...

Itinerant Sabbatical: July 2012

http://itinerantsabbatical.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 30, 2012. Back on the trail! Today I am headed back onto the pct. I took 3 consecutive rest days because I had not taken a break in 3 weeks of hiking. I have covered approximately 300 miles and have another 700 or so left. This next section is my longest leg, at over 100 miles before my next food stop at Timberline lodge on Mt. Hood. Taking time off was really relaxing. I got my quota of good food and cheap beer. I got to resupply, see family, and sleep in. Friday, July 20, 2012. My new trac...

Itinerant Sabbatical: Day 30

http://itinerantsabbatical.blogspot.com/2012/08/day-30.html

Saturday, August 4, 2012. Finished the longest leg of my journey today- about 117 miles from highway 242 to Timberline Lodge! A few other highlights: I crossed the 45th parallel: I am now closer to the north pole than I am to the equator. I also walked my longest distance in a day so far: 27 miles! Itinerant Sabbatical: August 20

http://itinerantsabbatical.blogspot.com/2012/08/august-20.html

Monday, August 20, 2012. I spent the last few days with Benny in Tacoma. He is training for a marathon so I went for an 8 mile run with him and kept up! It was good to see him and get some rest and good food. I got to Snoqualmie Pass today! It's been a great last few days of hiking. I hiked out of Chinook Pass with Benny. We drank some beers and watched the stars, planets, satellites, and meteors. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). One state down, one to go! View my complete profile.

Itinerant Sabbatical: August 23

http://itinerantsabbatical.blogspot.com/2012/08/august-23.html

Thursday, August 23, 2012. I am in Skykomish, Washington now. I completed this leg a day earlier than expected- I hope my pace stays high. The next section is supposed to be the most difficult in all Washington and Oregon. In the 1998-1999 winter, Mt. Baker (adjacent to the pct) got 1140 inches of snow- 95 FEET! I've been hearing that the section is passable, so perhaps the warm weather these last few weeks has been melting the snow like crazy. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

I want to ride my bicycle: June 2008

http://ahlvinrando.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

I want to ride my bicycle. Monday, June 16, 2008. SIR Four Passes 600K. The Seattle International Randonnoeur’s Four Passes 600K has been covered by John Kramer in his blog at http:/ randobiker.blogspot.com/2008/06/four-passes-ride-report.html. Blewett was a long steady uphill, not too steep. The descent was cool in the shade. It’ll be wrenching and difficult for people to change, but in the end we’ll have higher density which will (the optimistic view) lead to more social connections. Al...I enjoy most ...

I want to ride my bicycle: April 2009

http://ahlvinrando.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

I want to ride my bicycle. Sunday, April 12, 2009. The lesson for me is to “respect the ride” and allow adequate recovery time. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a bad day on the bike; this ride made me remember it can happen to me and I need to be adequately prepared. I’ll be back for this 300 K next year, better rested. I want to ride my bicycle. Monday, December 1, 2008. Fall mountain biking haiku. Cross season is over for me. It was fun, but I'm tired of racing for a while. Time for a short break then start training for the spring racing season and my goal for the year, Race Across Oregon, solo. Blanket the muddy trail like. Bran flakes for the earth. I want to ride my bicycle. Tuesday, February 19, 2008. Spring came for the President’s Day weekend. It’s been cool in the mornings and warmer in the afternoons. All the way up to 60 on Monday afternoon. Tuesday, February 5, 2008. Winter has stayed in the Wilamette Valley for the past few weeks. I’ve been commuting despite the snow and ice. A big part of the reason is the studded snow tires on my bike. Snow and ice studded monsters. Take me safely home. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Dave "Ready to Ride" Rowe.

I want to ride my bicycle. Monday, July 20, 2009. 8220;Fortune favors the prepared mind” Louis Pasteur. My first objective for RAO was safety for myself and the crew. My second objective for RAO was to finish within the time limit of 48 hours. My projection based on various Rando events (PBP, RM 1200) was for 44 hours. After riding large sections of the course and sweeping the XTR I knew that heat and wind could slow me down to the point where the 48 hour limit could be in doubt. I didn’t know it a...
