I was born in Ireland, on a farm in Cushendun, in the Glens of Antrim, and because I had arrived a little early and a cot had not yet been delivered, I was put in a clothes basket. When my five-year-old cousin came into the room, she thought I was a doll for her and poked me in the eye! Much later, a younger brother of mine would claim that I was born "in with the pigs", but although there are some peculiar old country practices, I'm sure this wasn't true. But I enjoyed singing and playing and I still do.
