Meckley's Musings: Oddities of the Browser

http://jasonmeckley.blogspot.com/2012/02/oddities-of-browser.html

Wednesday, February 8, 2012. Oddities of the Browser. There are many documented (and undocumented) nuances between browsers and how they process a request. Today I came across one that had me stumped for the better part of the day. I have a bit of jquery that looks like this:. Get(this.href, function (result) {. With the assumption that result returns a single DOM element, typically a form element. This was working well until the following result occurred. Get(this.href, function (result) {.

Meckley's Musings: Exceptions are Truly Exceptional

http://jasonmeckley.blogspot.com/2012/03/exceptions-are-truly-exceptional.html

Saturday, March 3, 2012. Exceptions are Truly Exceptional. Exceptions are meant to break way from the current workflow and inform the user that some unexpected happened. It is not meant to control the workflow the system. Too often I have seen code like this:. Public IEnumerable Entity GetEntities(). Var entities = repository.GetEntities("select * from table …");. Return new Entity[0];. This also means the developer must understand the result have potentially 2 meanings. 1. No data is present and...So ho...

Meckley's Musings: Properly Handling Exceptions

http://jasonmeckley.blogspot.com/2012/03/properly-handling-exceptions.html

Saturday, March 3, 2012. In my last post. I discussed how exceptions should be treated as exceptional and not used to control work flow. Now lets take a look at how we can manage exceptions to provide a positive user experience without sacrificing the intent of the code. To start lets review the general guidelines to exception management:. Only catch exceptions you expect to occur. Only catch exceptions if you are prepared to handle them. Properly clean up your components in the event of an exception.

Meckley's Musings: November 2011

http://jasonmeckley.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Wednesday, November 30, 2011. My first attempt with GIT. Tonight I decided to get started with GIT. I’m comfortable with SVN and I have read enough about GIT to at least understand the concept of how it works. What I wasn’t ready for was the command line. I’m spoiled by VisualSVN and it mouse click happy UI. But, I’m pleased to say, that after some reading and few minutes debugging my configs I was able to push my first commit. To github. Nothing exciting, just a simple README file. I enjoy working with ...

Founder of Hibernating Rhinos LTD. You can reach me by phone or email:. And how do you handle testing? Time to read 7 min. On my previous post, I explained about the value of pushing as much as possible to the infrastructure, and then show some code that showed how to do so. First, let us look at the business level code:. DestinationUnlocode, DateTime arrivalDeadline) { var trackingId = ExecuteCommand. TrackingId }) ; } public. RegisterCargo : Command string. OriginCode { get; set; } public. Well, the an...

Jason's Med/Ed Blog

Going from the hospital to the classroom and back. Sunday, May 13, 2012. This will be my last post as an admissions GA for GSE. Though I'll likely continue to blog (albeit not nearly as frequently), my time as a GA has come to an end. I thought I'd write this last post about the things I'll take from my time at GSE to bring back to the medical school. I'm also going to be helping the medical school out on another project that the administration is working on. It's an online platform called coursera&#...

Wednesday, 16 December 2009. The film clip being analysed in this essay is from Sin city, a movie released in the year 2005 produced by Hollywood, distributed in multiplex cinemas and directed by Frank Miller. In this clip, there are varied shot...
