Gregory L. Ulmer. Thick and bubbling, the tar is sloughing off the monster like hot candle wax, changing its form, and melting into new grotesque geometries in every frame. Popular entertainment reflects the socio-psychological concerns of a society or culture. The influence of this discourse of identity formation in childhood acts as the premise for this category of the popcycle. The Entertainment discourse is composed of three scenes from one narrative in popular media that I remember from my childhood.

Gregory L. Ulmer. Remembering origins, resurrecting through becoming. The Community discourse documents a historical narrative from the community with which I most identify – my hometown of Punta Gorda in Charlotte County, Florida. My three-part narrative gives the account of Spanish explorer Pánfilo de Narváez and his doomed expedition that began at the Charlotte Harbor. The historical figure/event recounted is not necessarily one that I had consciously identified with, or liked, but one which is simply...

Emblem | Vanessa Attia

Gregory L. Ulmer. The emblem represents the pattern, or signifier, found to be repeated across the popcycle discourses and effectively translates the mystory into my image of wide scope. The most striking signifier I found repeated in my work was “pool.”. Will be further illustrated in the logo. Leave a Comment so far. Feed for comments on this post. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.
