https://shanemartinbonsai.wordpress.com/2014/01/16/ficus-obliqua
Bonsai in the byron hinterland. Trident “SUMO” Fusion. January 16, 2014. This is a F. obliqua I collected growing out of a sandstone wall in Rushcutters Bay, Sydney, around 20 years ago. It had a canopy about 3ft across, and these 2 slender trunks holding the whole mass up. No idea how old it is but it must have been growing in the crack in the wall for at least 10 yrs or so to get to the size it was? First pic was November 2011. Frustrated and neglected for a few years. Overhead view below, showing good...

Bonsai in the byron hinterland. Trident “SUMO” Fusion. December 13, 2013. Large Port Jackson Ficus Root over Rock. It came to me in a 20inch diameter nursery tub, and took the 2 of us to load it in the back of my car, so moving this thing around has had its’ challenges over the past couple of years. Anyway, here are some pics of its progression to date. History pic #1 from prior owner Sept.1st 2009. History pic #2 from prior owner Nov. 2010. First wiring October 2012. More updates later this summer.

Bonsai in the byron hinterland. Trident “SUMO” Fusion. A promising little Juniper in training less than 6 mths. Friday December 13th 2013. It’s far too hot to be outside in the sun today, so I’ve put my jobs off until the afternoon cools down a little when I can do my weekly feed and Trident spray program. So this gives me a chance to update the Juniper Album with some new additions and some current pics of existing trees in this gallery. Here is a new tree to the gallery. I have left the “unusual&...

Bonsai in the byron hinterland. Trident “SUMO” Fusion. Started life over 20yrs ago as a straight stick about 1/2” thick. 1 year on, and progress has been quite good. First branch is gaining thickness and will be pruned back quite hard this winter to get some movement and taper to match the trunk. Once these maples are over 20 yrs old, they begin shedding bark and displaying this beautiful mottled colour. TR-14 base…These training pots are 400mm diameter. Closeup of TR-17 Nebari. There is a strong new lea...
