Saturday, 15 August 2015. When I was small, we had our groceries delivered each week. This was in addition to seperate deliveries for meat, milk and bread. The deliveries were from the neighbouring village of Tutbury from Parrick's the grocers there. It seems we have now come full circle. For about a decade now we have been using Ocado for our grocery deliveries, and we wonder why we had to suffer with actual supermarket shopping, especially the time it wasted. Where was Miss Roberts when we needed her?

The Journey Home and Two Boats Later : Different Strokes

http://www.jemmathedog.blogspot.com/2015/08/different-strokes.html

The Journey Home and Two Boats Later. Tuesday, 4 August 2015. On Sunday afternoon, we tied up for lunch just beyond the deafening M6. It was the only place really, else we would have been pitched into the next series of locks. As we untied after lunch, the unmistakable bow of Chertsey thundered around the corner and quickly caught and overtook us. To aid their progress they also had assistance from the enterprising "Rob the Lock" and the 26 locks from Kidsgrove must have been completed in record time.

The Journey Home and Two Boats Later : June 2015

The Journey Home and Two Boats Later. Tuesday, 2 June 2015. Lashed Opposite the Secret World of AstraZenica. In the early evening, we wended our way back to Macclesfield complete with Prosecco served up in 1970s Babycham glasses. We dropped our guests at the same bridge so that they could catch a train back to Burton. Ah well, it can't all be wine and roses and we definitely did the right thing. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The Journey Home and Two Boats Later : Uses for a Lifebelt (Part 2)

http://www.jemmathedog.blogspot.com/2015/08/uses-for-lifebelt-part-2_5.html

The Journey Home and Two Boats Later. Wednesday, 5 August 2015. Uses for a Lifebelt (Part 2). Back in 2013, we blogged about uses for a lifebelt. At the time we were using our lifebelt to keep glasses of wine secure. The gist of the blog was that when space is tight, which on a 45' narrowboat it certainly is, then it is helpful if items can perform multiple functions. All in all, the crew had a lovely evening, ending in drinking wine and watching episode 5 of The Affair, set in the glorious Hamptons....

The Journey Home and Two Boats Later. Sunday, 25 January 2015. No coats and ruined hair in snowy Whaley. It started snowing properly whilst we were out. Really big fluffy snow flakes were falling on Whaley Bridge station as we waited for our return train. A group of lads and a young girl were running over the bridge to get out of the snow when we heard one of them say "My hair's ruined! Would they survive the evening in Manchester's 'Tiger Tiger' and 'Gorilla'? How would they get back? Our first boat dog...

The Journey Home and Two Boats Later. Wednesday, 6 May 2015. This is it. I will now undoubtedly be both rich and famous. Dragon’s Den here I come. Heath Robinson, yes you: turn in your grave. I have an invention that will make the world stand up, jaws will drop and the universe will never be the same again. It is to be called the HIATUS, or to explain the acronym, the HULL INSPECTION AND ANODE TOOL FOR UNDERWATER SITUATIONS. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The World Is Maths

The World Is Maths. The Importance of Vocabulary. Subject-specific vocabulary is extremely important. The right academic vocabulary turns a clumsy conversation into an elegant and precise one. It can be tempting to avoid complex words with students, especially those who aren’t the highest-attaining, yet I’d argue that, in the pursuit of increasing attainment, all our students benefit when they can express themselves clearly and succinctly. Whenever possible I believe they are more likely to remember it.
