Friday, March 11, 2011. Another day in Venice. While my husband purchased tickets to Florence, I went to see the glass exhibition at the Palazzo Franchetti, located straight across the Grand Canal from our hotel. This wonderful exhibition is by Lino Tagliapietra, a maestro from Murano who has worked with glass for over 60 years. Monday, March 28, 2011. 1 A pretty London door(yes I know I am mad about doors! 2 'Hodge' Doctor Johnsons's cat. Dr. Johnson compiled the first comprehensive English dictionary which was published in 1755. I am yet to figure out why the cat deserved a statue, however there it was in Gough square featured sitting on top of a dictionary. 3 A photo of a London cab! Monday, March 14, 2011. Today we went to see the Palazzo Vecchio, originally the seat of city government since the 1300's now a museum. The Medici dukes turned the medieval building into a Renaissance palace in the 1500's filling it with art and frescoes that still grace it's labyrinth of rooms. The building dominates the Piazza Della Signoria. It looks almost fortress like, with it's high walls and soaring 94m high tower. 1 Palazzo Vecchio in the Piazza Della Signoria. 2 The internal front courtyard.
