What is Electron Cryotomography? In electron cryotomography (ECT), cells in aqueous media are applied to EM grids and plunge-frozen into a mixture of liquid ethane and propane, a cryogen so efficient that it cools the sample 104 K/s, so rapidly that water molecules do not have time to rearrange into a crystalline lattice of ice. ECT therefore neatly bridges the gap between structures of individual proteins (for instance, from X-ray crystallography, NMR spectroscopy, or cryo-electron single particle recon...

The Jensen Lab is fully equipped with state-of-the-art equipment for high-throughput CryoEM. FEI Tecnai Polara (F30). The heart and soul of the Jensen Lab is our 300 kV cryo-electron microscope commonly referred to as the Polara. It is equipped with a 4k x 4k Gatan K2 direct electron detector positioned behind a Gatan GIF energy filter to provide the best possible images of whole cryo-preserved cells. FEI Vitrobots (Mark III and IV). Because sometimes you just need to evaporate carbon onto some things.
