Monday, April 15, 2013. We drove west from Brecken ridge, past the towering Collegiate Peaks and straight on to the rugged San Juan Range. While some mountains have symmetrical forms, the San Juan peaks, some 14,000 feet high, had their own way with the horizon line. They jutted up into the sky at odd angles , producing one intimidating precipice after another. A debris-covered road led us up Red Mountain Pass .
