Monday, April 21, 2008. The top 10 things I’m NOT going to miss about Romania:. The top 10 things I’m NOT going to miss about. This is a traditional Romanian food that I just can’t stand. And that’s too bad because it’s very cheap and filling, so at the end of the month, when I’m running dangerously low on money (like now) it’s a staple in most PCV diets. Mămăligă is corn meal mush. You may know it as polenta. Usually you eat it with cheese, sour cream and pork fat. Please refer to the YouTube video.

Kate's Romanian World: January 2008
http://kateinromania.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html
Wednesday, January 23, 2008. MLK Day in Romania. Coming from a different culture with different beliefs and traditions often means I celebrate different holidays than my co-workers and students. I always like to try and teach something about home to the kids. This past Monday was Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and I thought that was a perfect topic for a cross-cultural lesson plan. Tuesday morning at 8:00 AM, I walk into my seventh grade class ready to talk about Civil Rights and MLK. 8220;Szia” means...

Kate's Romanian World: Reading in the Peace Corps
http://kateinromania.blogspot.com/2008/02/reading-in-peace-corps.html
Tuesday, February 19, 2008. Reading in the Peace Corps. My life in the Peace Corps is, to be perfectly honest, is kind of boring. On some weekends I go visit a friend in a different city, or have a friend come visit me. But that leaves my weekdays, and some weekends, wide open. For my first year here in. I didn’t have a television. Now I do, but I’m never really interested in watching Romanian talk shows or Spanish soap operas. So, the TV is normally turned off. In the Peace Corps office, in. I think it&...

http://kateinromania.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html
Sunday, December 2, 2007. Welcome back after a long delay. Warning, graphic blog. Hey all, sorry for the long delay in updating. Things have been really busy here in Zalau. I went to a Halloween party, celebrated Thanksgiving, hosted a Special Olympics event, moved apartments and got a new roommate. Things have just been moving at lightening speed, and before I knew it, it was December first. About a week ago I went to a party with a bunch of friends. Through a mutual friend, I met this girl named Ramona.

Kate's Romanian World: October 2007
http://kateinromania.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 11, 2007. I love fall in Romania. The leaves change color, the air turns colder (hey, I’m from Michigan; I love the cold! But most importantly, autumn means harvest festivals! I really love harvest festivals. Each farming community has their own, and they are spread all throughout the end of August, all of September and the beginning of October. After that we walked back into town where we got to ride on what is called a “dragon” in. Then I went to Turda for Turda fest, and it was much ...

Kate's Romanian World: March 2007
http://kateinromania.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, March 15, 2007. Are very different than schools in. Fist of all, the schools are often too small to house all the students, so there’s two different time schedules. Half of the students go to classes from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM. The other half of the students have classes from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Most often, the elementary school students are in the afternoon and the middle/high school students are in the mornings. Like in American elementary schools. I don’t have seating chart for that...

Saturday, July 26, 2008. This will be my last entry into this blog. I started it when I joined the PC to talk about my experiences here. Now that my service is coming to an end, I think it appropriate to end this as well. Thanks to all who have read and commented-weather you agreed with my thoughts, options and experiences or not. The lady who sells ice cream on the street corner for 1 leu. It's really good, and cheap! 2 liter bottles of beer. Good, cheap and huge! Most of my students. Steven S. said.
