Julie at Stanford: July 2008
http://julieincr.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 23, 2008. Well everyone, it's official. I purchased my flight to Costa Rica last night and got a fabulous deal on it. Brian and I will be flying together on September 20. This is a little later than I'd originally planned, but it will give me extra time to save up money and take care of business in WI. August 1 is the closing date for the house I grew up in. We've been very busy packing, selling, and moving things to relatives' houses and storage units. Thanks for the love and support!

Julie at Stanford: February 2009
http://julieincr.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Monday, February 9, 2009. Still Alive and Well. Hi everyone, I apologize for the huge break in posting. One of my new year’s resolutions is to be more consistent – at least once a week. My mom was a professional according to our guides), and we went on an amazing hanging bridges tour through the different forest levels. Our tour guide howled at the howler monkeys and they howled back at her! Here is a picture of mom and me at our hotel in Arenal:. They howled right back at us! Brian’s host family (...

Julie at Stanford: May 2008

Monday, May 12, 2008. E-mail test for Parker. Does this blog actually email people? Why does it only allow you to email a maximum of 10 people? Do I have to invent a listserve or something via google to make it email like 40 people? Sunday, May 11, 2008. I set up this blog so that family and friends can keep track of me through it all, especially during the time when I am in Costa Rica. It will be difficult to make phone calls, and I will have limited ability to respond to personal emails.

Julie at Stanford: September 2008
http://julieincr.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, September 28, 2008. I promised that I would write a long entry about what I’ve been doing so far, and here it is! I’m much more relaxed translating “Katie needs a hammer” or “It’s time for lunch”. Speaking of lunch, while the teams are here, my mama tica comes to the project every day to make a big lunch for the ticos and the team, about 40 people in total. She is a phenomenal cook! They also invited me over every Saturday from now on to watch college football! They’re huge Georgia fans, bu...

Julie at Stanford: The Thunder Rolls
http://julieincr.blogspot.com/2009/05/thunder-rolls.html
Thursday, May 7, 2009. The rainy season officially started over the weekend and it has poured every day since, like clockwork. Loud thunder, lightning, and torrents of rain coming down noisily on the tin roofs. During my classes at the project I can barely hear my students even though it's a one-on-one teaching environment. We're still saying "¿Cómo? What did you say? And I got my feet wet two days ago! These first rainstorms are dangerous for one's health.". If only it were that easy to avoid carsickness.

Julie at Stanford: May 2009
http://julieincr.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
Thursday, May 14, 2009. I'm leaving my house here in an hour to go home to the states. My mamatica is out on an errand so I'm alone with my suitcases. She left a CD of Jesus Adrian Romero playing that I woke up to every morning when I FIRST stayed with her, with Justine on our trip in 2007. It's all very surreal. Please pray for me and for Yanira, my mama tica, through this transition. The next time I post it will be from the U.S. of A. or as I now prefer to call them the EEUU (Estados Unidos). The weeke...

Sunday, September 20, 2009. Refurbished blog and update. Thanks to anyone who still reads this! I took a break from writing over the summer but now I'm finally at Stanford for graduate school. I even refurbished the layout and put up a new picture to reflect my new environment and this new phase in my life. I had a great drive out here with my mom. We loaded up the corolla and started down highway I-43 at about 5am, Sept 5. Our trip was as follows:. We stayed with Patty, Tim, and their boys for the night.

Julie at Stanford: October 2008

Wednesday, October 29, 2008. Busy Times at Project Abraham. I'm sorry I haven't updated in a while. Things have been busy and they're about to get even crazier. We took the group downtown to a market in San Jose and I got a little Christmas shopping done. Last night I rested up to prepare for the crazy days ahead. Tomorrow will be a really busy day as well. After working at the project I have math classes and then the team and about 40 youth from the church here are going roller skating! Maybe I'll just ...

Julie at Stanford: Water update...
http://julieincr.blogspot.com/2009/05/water-update.html
Saturday, May 2, 2009. So after updating last I called Nathalia and David to come and help me. David is very handy and has lots of tools. After having a good laugh at me for "destroying the house" David used a vicegrips to grip what was left of the valve top to open it. Once he opened it though, water started coming out the top of the valve! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
