grammy'sblog: Grandpa Montgomery
http://rhmaxwell.blogspot.com/2010/11/grandpa-montgomery.html
Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Uncle Marlowe read poems he'd written and Uncle Roscoe and his wife Jiggs did crazy dances. My uncles would come up to me, bow, and ask for the next dance. I felt like a queen. Grandpa had a little Jack Russell he called "Blackie." I'm not sure why, as the dog wasn't black. This little dog grabbed Grandpa's trousers and hung on while Grandpa danced around the room, the dog swinging through the air. Posted by Ruth H. Maxwell. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Thursday, January 6, 2011. Nicholas became one of the outstanding Marylanders of his day and one of the wealthiest. He was active in the militia and had a company of nineteen men. In a letter to Col. Burgess he wrote, ".we have noe orders but to Range and Defend the Plantations, the which we shall doe to the best of our skill." In 1687 he was commissioned a major. Posted by Ruth H. Maxwell. grammy'sblog: June 2010
http://rhmaxwell.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, June 13, 2010. I've missed doing my blog. It gave me a feeling of being connected. I'm not yet ready to do the one about my Grandma Hammer (to follow the one about Grandpa Hammer), but wanted to do something. So, here are some more of my pieces. (They're dated, but.). The large chorale I sing with was giving a major concert. We had invited two other ensembles to perform with us, had a full symphony orchestra, and were being televised. This was the big time. Several days later I went to throw it o...

Ruth's Blog: August 2012
http://rhmaxwell2.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Friday, August 31, 2012. It’s great fun to travel with a guide when he’s scouting the country for new sites. And when that country is Turkey, it’s an amazing adventure. Almost overwhelming. So we (my guide Aydin. And I) had stumbled into the village Cambazli. (If you’re looking at a map of Turkey this is in the area that is the southernmost tip of Turkey near Silifke. While we were having our third cup of chai, Fatma’s granddaughter Haci (Hachee). We drove then to Olba. Posted by Ruth H. Maxwell. I had a...

grammy'sblog: Tales Out of School
http://rhmaxwell.blogspot.com/2011/11/tales-out-of-school.html
Tuesday, November 15, 2011. Tales Out of School. These are the stories that like glue hold a family together, the kind we love to tell. I don't want these to be lost, and I'm hoping that over the years you will add to them, telling those of the next generation, and the next. I knew the man had heard for I saw his ears turn red. I turned to John, my finger on my lips. "Sh-h-h.". John's eyes widened. "You mean he doesn't. He doesn't have any hair? Everywhere," I told him. You want a dirty world? A year lat...

grammy'sblog: I'm Baaaack
http://rhmaxwell.blogspot.com/2011/06/im-baaaack.html
Wednesday, June 22, 2011. Ruth in pink pajamas. I had dinner last evening with a dear out-of-town friend. He's been following my cancer journey via emails and occasional phone conversations. During our conversation, he asked me what lessons I had learned from having had cancer. A useful question, as it required I stop and reassess what has been happening to me. And I came up with some lessons. I also learned how beautiful our bodies are- whatever shape they're in. They are amazingly capable, and I do...

Ruth's Blog: September 2012
http://rhmaxwell2.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Friday, September 28, 2012. I woke up groggy-eyed this morning. There is a subversive activity going on that I think the public needs to be warned about. Maybe I should contact Homeland Security for this action is a true saboteur. I should be taking long walks, getting eight hours of sleep each night, doing FaceBook, answering emails, doing my exercises. Instead, what am I doing? When he toddled off to his first day of school. At twelve, my grandmother sent me her copy of Tale of Two Cities. Book I never...

Ruth's Blog: High School
http://rhmaxwell2.blogspot.com/2013/05/high-school.html
Friday, May 17, 2013. I recently read an article in The Week. April 26, 2013) which suggested we’re still stuck in high school. When I think of traffic snarls and the TV news, I’m not surprised. When I think about high school, I’m convinced. High school does something to us, it’s our first real template for adult action. Where do I fit? Posted by Ruth H. Maxwell. May 17, 2013 at 9:55 AM.
