Jonathan Eiten- Oil Painter. Tuesday, December 7, 2010. The process of painting on copper. Links to this post. Three Oranges with Cherries. Links to this post. This painting on copper is about half way done. I have worked into it twice already-the prematura layer and the first glaze. I usually use a couch of Pre-Raphaelite medium or a mixture of stand oil with Gamsol paint thinner; either one will give the paint some body to it. Links to this post. Orange with Broken Tea Pot. Eating from the Garden...growing...: Slice, Dice, and Freeze
http://eatingfromthegarden.blogspot.com/2009/08/slice-dice-and-freeze.html
August 21, 2009. Slice, Dice, and Freeze. There's just no more putting it off, it's time to start processing and getting some more things in the freezer. We decided to take one item at a time and finish it out in the garden. Lord willing this weekend we'll finish up with the myriads of Brussels sprouts out there and get them frozen. Today I tried something new, which is making and freezing stewed tomatoes. There's a recipe in the Ball Blue Book of Preserving. Labels: freezing green peppers. Slice, Dice, ...

Eating from the Garden...growing...: January 2011
http://eatingfromthegarden.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
January 30, 2011. In Need of a Little Sunshine. We've had so much flat, white light this winter, and I'm craving a little sunshine! We have family that have evacuated their own winter scenes for AZ, FL, and Caribbean cruises, and maybe that's what has us craving the same! In all fairness, we have have had some open invitations for warmer climes, but it's just not in the cards this year. Two years ago we took a trip to Hawaii. And that was quite a cure for the winter blahs! And that was a fine substitute.

Eating from the Garden...growing...: May Flowers and Other Nice Things
http://eatingfromthegarden.blogspot.com/2012/05/may-flowers-and-other-nice-things.html
May 3, 2012. May Flowers and Other Nice Things. My favorite rose, Tahitian Sunset. I can safely say that I have never had roses on May 3rd! What a strange and amazing spring it has been. How sweet are these little babies? And by the way, I stuck my camera through the thorns and pointed it down at the nest, rather than disturbing or contaminating anything. I was surprised that such a chancy method yielded exactly what I wanted to see! Our seed potatoes lived on our dining room table long enough to grow ey...

Eating from the Garden...growing...: Farewell to Iowa
http://eatingfromthegarden.blogspot.com/2012/09/farewell-to-iowa.html
September 1, 2012. We have moved to Tacoma, WA! Yes, we will certainly miss many things about our little acreage. Many people exclaimed, "Won't you hate to leave your garden? We will miss an abundance of bird sightings, but not the messy Starling nests on the porch! We will likely miss the quiet, but not the dust clouds from the gravel roads! I will still be blogging from this same site, with a future title change of course! Our blackberry canes produced a lovely fruit this year and we made jam! Our volu...

Eating from the Garden...growing...: February 2011
http://eatingfromthegarden.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
February 22, 2011. I've spent that last little while chatting with my DD on gmail chat - what a nice privilege! What a nice daughter! It gave me the inspiration to write a little today, which has been lacking. I know as soon as the garden gets rolling I'll be writing too much! Speaking of inspiration - I've been watching Mad Hungry. Recently we tried out her corn fritters. Hunger, plus increasing prices at the grocery store, inspire me to make bread each week! I've shared the video of making this perfect...

Eating from the Garden...growing...: March 2011
http://eatingfromthegarden.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
March 15, 2011. Spring in our Step! So many lovely signs of what's just around the corner! We think these are daffodils, or maybe jonquils? No matter what they are, they will be very welcome. Another nice spring bonus are fresh farm eggs from chickens who have just started laying. One of the women I work with has been so generous to bring in these eggs to share! I love all the colors, especially this greenish egg. What a lovely surprise to see the pale blue interior when I cracked it open! March 8, 2011.

Eating from the Garden...growing...: March 2012
http://eatingfromthegarden.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
March 26, 2012. These little babies are right on time at our local farm store, but our spring seems to have sprung a little on the early side. We've had more days in the 70's than anything else. Are we getting too comfortable with it? There is endless speculation around Iowa about whether or not we will get anymore freezing weather or snow. We're on our normal course of indoor planting and seed ordering, but it's sure tempting to move ahead with the whole program when it's so lovely out! Leaves have set ...

http://eatingfromthegarden.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
December 21, 2010. Christmas Countdown 2010 - #6. On this first day of winter, the anticipation of Christmas is high! I can hear the wind kicking up and we have snow in the forecast. As much as we love a white Christmas, we're praying that harsh weather won't spoil our plans in the coming days, as it has been doing all over the world according to the morning news. Hope they all get home for Christmas! Another new cookie this year are these peppermint snowballs. For cookie making that will make a big diff...

April 23, 2012. St Louis Part 2 - The Food. If you've read my blog for a while, you know that when we take a trip we search out the food specialties in that area. We will often look on Urbanspoon, or Yelp, or TripAdvisor. For suggestions and ratings. We have also followed the advice from Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. Sometimes with varied success, to be perfectly honest! Luckily for us, this suggestion from Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. Was right on the money! There are a number of distinct neighborhoods...
