Photonotes: July 2010
http://newphotonotes.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Sunday, July 25, 2010. Anyway, right now I want to record some thoughts I wanted to clear for a long time. It's about documentary and portrait photography. More accurately, two things: how to photograph people in misery without exploiting them and becoming demagogue, and how to make such a photo work. As a starter, here's one I took of charming little Sapuna in Nakho, Northern India. Compassion is the keyword - getting connected with the subject. How to achieve this? I edited this and cloned out a little...

Photonotes: SajtóFotó 2010 - Hungarian Press Photo Awards 2010
http://newphotonotes.blogspot.com/2011/01/hungarian-press-photo-awards-2010.html
Wednesday, January 19, 2011. SajtóFotó 2010 - Hungarian Press Photo Awards 2010. Sajtófotó, the annual Hungarian Press Photo Awards have always been criticized for being open to all but always won by the same insiders. It was welcomed news to hear that foreign photographers (Jan Sibik, Sam Steward, Filip Horvath from AP and Thomas Szlukovenyi from Reuters were invited this year so that the competition doesn't turn into the usual game called. I give an award to your protegé, you'll give one to mine".

Im hoping to start my own blog soon but Im a little lost on everything. Would you propose starting with a free platform like Wordpress or. Go for a paid option?

Photonotes: March 2011
http://newphotonotes.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, March 9, 2011. How to remove banding from a jpg? I haven't got a clue. After trying everything recommended in every PS tutorial and every forum, and still without success, a conversation from the movie "Top Secret" comes to mind. The manager, who was supposed to free an American musician from an East-German prison, visits him in his cell and says with a mournful face:. Nick, I have tried everything. The embassy, the consulate.". Don't worry, there will be a solution.". Wednesday, March 09, 2011.

Photonotes: Opening old perspectives
http://newphotonotes.blogspot.com/2011/01/opening-old-perspectives.html
Wednesday, January 12, 2011. Soon we will all photograph in 3D and merge videos with still shots and images will be no longer saved to memory cards but directly transferred to Facebook from the camera. Or so they say. then, returning to the very basics of visual arts can be quite inspirational in our quest for better photographs. What made this come to my mind is a photo by Zoran Toldi. A dilapidated door as background, bare feet on the threadbare cobblestones. All details match the portrait of a str...

Photonotes: September 2010
http://newphotonotes.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Monday, September 27, 2010. Monday, September 27, 2010. Links to this post. Sunday, September 26, 2010. Let's build a new site (or die trying) - update. An old friend stumbled upon my post. Written after the meltdown at 1X and asked if there's any news. Maybe it's about time to give an up-date of the situation, just for the record. Bottomline: the project is in its Rubber Duck phase, looking smooth and quiet on the surface but paddling like the devil underneath. Sunday, September 26, 2010. If such a grou...

Photonotes: November 2010
http://newphotonotes.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Wednesday, November 10, 2010. The most iconic photographers? CNN's readers can vote for the most iconic photographer. With 20 great ones to choose from. The page is a bit bugged, which I realised when the caption belonging to Avedon appeared under Lawrence Beitler's photograph but apart from this grotesque trick by the web devil it's a great initiative. Who would be my choice? Were staged. Joe Rosenthal and Capa ditto (sorry, I don't believe the loyalist's death was real - and even worse, I dare say ...

Photonotes: A truly dismal standard of reporting
http://newphotonotes.blogspot.com/2011/01/truly-dismal-standard-of-reporting.html
Friday, January 7, 2011. A truly dismal standard of reporting. Hungary and the UK are on the brink of war, at least in the media after the Economist illustrated one article. To prove they did nothing wrong the Economist published the original AFP shot and the cropped illustration side by side:. Alas, this was the point where Mr Nippletrait too made a fool out of himself and his paper. Uh-oh here Mr Orban doesn't look like the devil and that wouldn't fit into the preconception of the Economist's. That's t...

Photonotes: August 2010
http://newphotonotes.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 30, 2010. Trespass, rape and kidnap at f=2,8. The first hills appeared on the horizon as we aproached Kalka, the gateway of the Himalayas. Kalka is a typically chaotic and dirty town, renown for being the starting point of the toy train to Simla. Having our own roads, we were just passing through. Skirting a cow I approached the shop and leant over a table loaded with underwear and socks for sale, all dirty from street filth and exhaust fumes, wishing my 24-70 were just a little longer.
