I have looked at all the photos online, and read the plans over and over again as I admit to having had difficulty seeing this structure in three dimensions from the 2 dimension plans. After advice from the builders forum, I just went ahead and cut out the parts per the plan and temporarily assembled all with hot melt glue. I LOVE THIS STUFF! Tuesday, January 20, 2015. Odds and Ends: Floorboards, sprits. January is a slow month in the Northeast US, so it is still time to do a lot of odds and ends. Floorboards - ripped 8 10 foot fir boards to make the framing and the flooring for the forward cockpit. Nothing remarkable other than it taking twice as long as expected. I put a 1/2" gap between the planks and made the frame 1/8" smaller than the hole overall. Will sand all and glue this week. While the saw was set to rip 1.5" boards, I ripped ...

Monday, September 29, 2014. I have decided to paint the exterior as the hull is upside down and ready at this point. Centerboard will get painted as well. The whole boat has been sanded to 180 grit and dusted and wiped clean of dust with rags and solvent. I will do it one more time prior to the application of the paint. Photos coming. Wednesday, July 22, 2015. Deck Hardware, and sail report. July 20, 2015. Sorry for the lack of updates. But, I wanted to go sailing this summer and decided to put the computer on hold in exchange for a full focus on finishing the boat. The CS17 fits perfectly. I still need to add the self-bailer, and the docking hardware, and oarlocks, but it was time to get out on the water and see how long it would take to rig and launch. 30 minutes to step masts and rig. could be 15 without mistakes. Sunday, June 29, 2014. After many hours of filling and sanding, I almost have a fair hull. I am thinking of two more cycles of filling and sanding. All the seams have been taped and faired at this point in time. 30 more minutes with the palm sander and we should be good. For the wide open spots, it is hand sanding with 80 grit on a two foot long board. This works pretty well. The low spots are clearly visible in this shot. Probably two more fillings and sandings. Thursday, June 18, 2015. June 18, 2015. Attaching the coaming has become an obsession of sorts. I want the coaming to go all around the cockpit and provide an aestheticly pleasing line as well as a functional drip control. Recipe - soak overnight, wrap in towel, steam for 40 minutes, bend VERY QUICKLY. It loses pliability within 5 minutes of being removed from the steam. SUCCESS! Friday, July 25, 2014. We finally had a great day for epoxying, and the time to do so. Boat is now half covered with glass. Some tricks learned along the way from prior boats that may help someone else. Purchase a Tyvek painting suit. Worth it's weight in gold. Use a chip brush, and squeegee to spread out and spread in the epoxy. Do not apply too thick a layer. Apply with the brush, spread out with the squeegee. 3 thin coats should do it for 6 oz glass. Tyvek suit ready for action. View from the side.

Friday, July 24, 2015. Sailing report - Buzzard's Bay! Arrived in Wareham at the local ramp and put Blue J in for her first romp in Buzzard's Bay. My daughter and I went out in about 30 minutes of rigging/launching and spent three hours on the bay prior to the weather closing in on us. Sorry, no photos. I am currently considering getting the Honda 2.3 hp as I am sure it would be suitable for the boat, but am unsure if the results would be any better in terms of keeping the carburetor clean.
