Wednesday, March 21, 2012. Loving God More Than Timbits. Last week I wrote of my decision to observe Lent by fasting one day a week over breakfast and lunch (A Lenten Neophyte). I made the decision on my way to work a couple weeks ago. Already tardy with my decision, I wanted to begin right away. I decided to forego the breakfast and lunch I had packed and jump right into my first fasting day. 8221; noting the empty tray. 8220;I’m working on it, Phil.” she replied. How could three Timbits so quickly dera...

A Plodding Pilgrimage: December 2012
http://aploddingpilgrimage.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Monday, December 24, 2012. In my last post. I began to explore why the angelic birth announcement of the Messiah came to shepherds. The first reason was that he came from their ranks, a shepherd for the people. The second reason is that he came to their ranks, more interested in the humble and hurting than in the prosperous and self-righteous. Shepherds are a model of the former. These are the kinds of people he came for. This post began as prose and morphed into loose poetry. This is a filthy backdrop.

Oh, how I'm learning this lesson! I'm learning to live in the moment because God is in the moment with me, but it's a struggle not to take matters into my own hands. It's a struggle to wait on God and to trust Him in all things . to trust in His sovereignty. That's what is boils down to, isn't it? 8220;This is what the Lord.

Wednesday, September 25, 2013. Les Miserables and Les Work Schedule. Lately as I write the schedule, I stare at the computer screen, puzzling out how to fill in the gaps in my staffing. Last Sunday’s there was no other option. I would have to work on my day off. It’s not my preference, but I’ll do it when I have to. 8220;Won’t you get in trouble for skipping church? I stared back in silent bewilderment. Head cocked and eyes slightly squinted. The thought had never crossed my mind. Valjean is the model of...

We had a family of robins take up residence under our deck this summer. We watched as the eggs hatched and the chicks grew. Eventually, the four newborns were cramming the nest. With each worm ingested, overcrowding became a bigger problem. One afternoon, I was making quite a racket moving out extension ladder to work on our gutters. There was no turning back.

Wednesday, January 22, 2014. The God of the Snowstorm. So here is an adaptation of the second sermon I preached at Inlet Community Church this month in a series on snow. And then he loses it all in a day. The 500 oxen and 500 donkeys are stolen by the vicious Sabeans and the attending servants are killed. The 7,000 sheep are burned up by fire falling from the sky and the attending servants are incinerated. But while he won’t reject God, but he will ask why. Again and again. He may not raise his fist in r...

A Plodding Pilgrimage: July 2012

Wednesday, July 25, 2012. In my last post I wrote about the frustration of losing my memory stick ( Meaningless. We take fresh water for granted. For most, it is as simple as turning on a faucet. We give little thought to what makes that possible. It wasn’t always so easily attained. In the early 1800s, before modern plumbing and sewage, the city of NY faced a severe lack of fresh water to meet the needs of their rapidly growing population. It served as a reservoir and increasingly as a sewage tank.

A Plodding Pilgrimage: April 2013

Wednesday, April 17, 2013. I haven't been writing for the blog much lately. I'll get back to it soon. But I have been writing. This piece was accepted by Standard Publishing for their Adult Sunday School Quarterly, "Seek," and will appear in December this year. Some of this may demand a bit too much overhead, so they might want to put some feelers out for investors. I’m sure they could convince people this is a worthwhile investment with a well-developed presentation for venture capitalists. And this is ...
