My second day back in the states I drove down to New York with my mother and aunt to meet up with my sister Allyson. She lives in LA, but flew to New York for a weekend birthday bash (the big 3-0) with friends. Allyson with college friends Althea and Ashley in Time Square. Allyson with birthday balloons at Tavern on the Green, where we first met up for lunch. Since that weeken...

Wednesday, May 7, 2008. Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu. I really lucked out with the other tourists in my group: they were all very fun and easy-going. Also a good mix: three Germans, one Swiss, two Dutch, and one other American (who happens to live 45 minutes from my hometown in Mass! Eight of us altogether. Soon after lunch, we head for Salka...

Tuesday, February 19, 2008. It was 3 days altogether, with about a day of bus riding and 2 days of hiking. Fabulous weather and beautiful views made for a great trip. Since I'm short on time, I'll let the photos do most of the talking. Dog, sheep, and humans. Susanne and Andy (the German couple who also joined me in Puno) set out from Cabanaconde, the pueblo where most people start hikes into the canyon. The weather was perfect. The view from the bungalows in San Juan de Chucho. pretty breathtaking.

Another meticulously-prepared meal. so much thought put into the color combinations. Now a little on tourist stops: One of the first sights I visited here was. El Convento de Santa Catalina. Ah, the color! Andrés preparing lunch. Both he an...
