Julie's Journey - A Walk of Faith

Julie's Journey - A Walk of Faith. Friday, May 31, 2013. This blog is brought to you by the number 72. My Dad was 72 when he lost his battle to cancer in November. 72 is the number of laps I walked in memory of dad. When Amy and I decided to form our own team for this year’s Relay for Life event we never expected it to be something we would do in ‘memory’ of dad. It was intended to ‘honor’ dad and his second courageous battle with cancer. The days leading up to the Relay were filled with anxiety. Second ...

Julie's Journey - A Walk of Faith: When I least expect it....

http://www.juliesjourney-awalkoffaith.blogspot.com/2013/04/when-i-least-expect-it.html

Julie's Journey - A Walk of Faith. Friday, April 26, 2013. When I least expect it. I have learned to expect the unexpected. What I haven’t. Learned is how to deal with it when it occurs. Sometimes it happens in private and I can let the tears roll freely. Other times it happens in public or in the company of others which presents a challenge to maintain my composure. The five month anniversary of my dad’s death passed ever so quietly last Friday. We all remembered the day. Each of us mourned the day.

Julie's Journey - A Walk of Faith. Tuesday, June 12, 2012. Cancer Sucks. Sorry Mom! I know you hate that word but today that is the way I feel. Trying to pretty it up or clean it up by saying Cancer STINKS just doesn’t cut it. Forgetting to DVR your favorite show stinks,. Getting a speeding ticket stinks,. Gaining weight stinks…. But cancer.it sucks. I hate seeing what this disease and it’s treatments have done to my dad. It’s not fair and I am mad! Run far, far away! My dad has cancer….he is f...Not the...

Julie's Journey - A Walk of Faith: November 2012

Julie's Journey - A Walk of Faith. Friday, November 30, 2012. The End of One Journey…. The Beginning of Another. This was not the outcome we had so deeply hoped and prayed for throughout the past year. We were supposed to have more time together, we were supposed to celebrate the holidays, we were supposed to have more time to share our love and make more memories. Sadly, our journey ended on Monday, November 19. At 10:15 as dad departed his earthly home and entered our Lord’s presence. I was touched by ...

Julie's Journey - A Walk of Faith: The 19th....

http://www.juliesjourney-awalkoffaith.blogspot.com/2012/12/the-19th.html

Julie's Journey - A Walk of Faith. Wednesday, December 19, 2012. Today is the 19. One month ago I held my father’s hand and softly whispered my final good-byes to him. I searched for courage and strength to tell him it was ok to let go, that he didn’t have to keep fighting and that we would all be ok. I gazed at his face and kept my hand clasped in his once strong hand trying to preserve every detail of our final moments together. I watched and waited already knowing that he would not draw another. Attem...

Julie's Journey - A Walk of Faith: Moment to moment.....

http://www.juliesjourney-awalkoffaith.blogspot.com/2012/12/moment-to-moment.html

Julie's Journey - A Walk of Faith. Monday, December 10, 2012. Grief you are neither my friend nor foe,. Just a necessary path I travel on the way to letting go. Letting go of the fear, the heartache and the unbearable pain,. To face the fact that my life has been forever changed. Time, faith and love are the only things that can serve to heal,. To mend the brokenness and hurt that are still so raw and real. Hearing that he is in a better place does little to ease the ache. I would love to be able to mold...

High Strung Musings: April 2013

http://highstrungmusings.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, April 2, 2013. Pieces of joy…. I guess after re-reading my last blog I have decided it was truly a downer. Thank you for your messages of support and encouragement. It is not fun. I am only a few months into a process that can take quite a bit of time. There is no “by the book” process either. We are all different. For that matter, I will forever be different. A piece of my heart is gone. This weekend was not one I was particularly looking forward to. Friday – I stayed in bed. We watched some ba...

High Strung Musings: November 2012

http://highstrungmusings.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Friday, November 30, 2012. I don’t want this to be a long, drawn-out rehashing of what our family went through Thanksgiving Week but I do want to record the highs and lows and the special memories that took place as we said ‘goodbye’ to our wonderful Dad. Today marks one week since we said "goodbye" and my last blog detailed the decision to bring Dad home on Hospice care. It was the best decision. Almost immediately, he became less agitated. He seemed to rest more. Turns out, Jesus had other plans. We tr...

Tuesday, July 31, 2012. The Menu from Marble Falls. Onion Rings - Double Horn Brewery, Marble Falls. I don't have a pic of our breakfast endeavor. Super Taco. At the Shell station. Yep. It's a restaurant at a gas station and it is THE BEST breakfast taco you will ever eat. Due to some slow service, we were there for about 2 hours. Eating. Catching up. Cracking up. Peaches for Mom and Pops. Did you catch that I said we left room for dessert? Links to this post. Sunday, July 29, 2012. Hubby I took off Frid...

High Strung Musings: October 2013

http://highstrungmusings.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Wednesday, October 30, 2013. The Gift of Time. It’s been 24 weeks since I last blogged. I lost interest. I was tired. I felt like I didn’t have anything fun, high-strung or witty left to say. Giving honor to Juju’s 72 laps felt like a good way to put the cancer to bed, so to speak. But here we are. Approaching the anniversary of that time in our lives that was the bleakest. And we find ourselves asking, how are we going to get through these holidays when the grief is still there? Links to this post.

Wednesday, May 22, 2013. Relay for Life was last Friday. Juju and I had been planning for the event for several months. We had friends on board to help us and we thought we would have one of the best camp-sites at the event, which we did! I want to thank some of our awesome team members:. Thursday, March 28, 2013. Cream or Coffee Grinds? I am currently waging an epic battle in my life with negativity. It’s not a new thing. I usually admit that I see the glass “half-empty”, that Juju is the “nice sister” and that grudges stay with me for a long time. Even when I proclaim to be “over it”, I can rattle off the details of the offense quicker than a fly gets to honey. Forgiveness is hard for me. They constantly try to lift me up and get me to see the ‘other side’ of situations. Every time I ha...

Saturday, December 15, 2012. Don't let them rob you. This has been a week of ups and downs.big things, little things, great moments of joy, great moments of sadness. I am just going to give you a week's wrap up day by day. Wednesday - has to be divided into day/night. The day was not the best. Part of being a teacher and taking off work is hoping that your Sub has a great day. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. I hate it when students don't give their best in class. Links to this post. High Strung Musings: My sister…

http://highstrungmusings.blogspot.com/2013/05/my-sister.html

Wednesday, May 15, 2013. I have written about my sister quite a few times in my blogs over the past year. I think we have established that she is the ‘favorite daughter’. She is the cream to my coffee grounds, and she has a heart of gold and is generous beyond words. It is the last point that I want to focus on in my blog today. But we are power shoppers so she powered through an afternoon/evening of checking things off our “To Do List”. Was it too late to have another kid? Yes Yes it is. Trust me. W...

We are back from spending MLK weekend in Fuerteventura, Canary Islands (politically part of Spain but off the coast of Africa).
