Monday, October 18, 2010. Today was the first week of the School of Education’s Science Saturday program. After this week’s readings I had a much clearer picture of multi-genre usage within a single theme. I participated in this week’s installment of Science Saturday and was able to see firsthand the effects of multi-genre usage on the learning process. Though it was scheduled for between 9:30 am and 12 PM it ran a little long. The elementary students were divided into three groups, k-2nd, 3rd-4.

We cant control everything that kids are exposed to but we can express our opinions and encourage kids to think critically about not only media-related topics but also about proper ways to respond and behave. To Do the Write. Monday, October 18, 2010. Perhaps I’m easy to catch, but I couldn’t help but notice the emphasis of teaching students “skills in context”. Perhaps that was by design, or it could simply be because my research for my own Multigenre Research Paper (MGRP) (which has unfortunately pushed this post to the periphery) has a focus on this point as well. Either way, it caught my attention. MGRPs, from both the book’s description and even in our short experience so far in doing one on our own.

Wednesday, November 24, 2010. The Power of Multi-genre. My experience with the multi-genre project was much different than I expected. I was prepared to learn more about multiculturalism and the benefits of building a multicultural classroom community. I believed this would come through investigation on my research paper. Saturday, October 16, 2010. The Powell and Davidson article, "The Donut House." made me think about how, when trying to spread a good idea around, the true benefit gets diluted. How many of us have gone on a field trip, maybe taken notes or drawings during the field trip, written or drawn up a report, and maybe written a thank-you note? I think so.
