Posted by Kris on Nov 3rd, 2009 5 comments. Have you ever heard a loud singer and thought, “Wow, I wish I could sing that way if I wanted to”? Not that our main goal should be to sing as loudly as possible, but could you put out more volume if you wanted to? I believe good singers have a wide range of dynamics at their disposal so let’s look at some ways to give us a little more “umph” when needed:. Is now finally downloadable! You can check this out at the Singers’ Resource Store. If you are interested.

Good Singing Posture 101. Posted by Kris on Jan 31st, 2010 3 comments. Yes, I just did this to test this out again too – scary, no confidence, not good. Now head back to the mirror and get into good singing posture – tall, upright, head and neck in alignment, hands by your sides, plenty of room to breathe. Wow – what a difference! Aim to sing with this posture all the time. Can I receive what they are singing and let the Lord minister the words of the song to me? A quick note on neck and head alignment t...

Posted by Kris on Aug 28th, 2009 5 comments. So before I ever jump into topics like breathing, tone, singing louder, enunciation, etc. let’s look at a much more basic question, “Why do we sing? 8221; Well, I sing because I’m happy – ok, that sounds like a song! Yes, it’s true that we get silly songs stuck in our head sometime by going in and out of businesses. That’s usually when I take the time to pop in a CD in my car or make myself start singing something else! How can listening help us? I too always ...

Posted by Kris on Mar 7th, 2010 2 comments. Do you look pleasant while you are singing? Do you smile occasionally? If someone in the audience or congregation was watching you sing would they want to join in? Do you look super freaked out when you are on the platform/stage? Are you having fun singing :-) or is it a chore? If you don’t enjoy it maybe it’s not for you. Oh ouch. We all need work in this area I did a whole blog on the topic. (See Singing and Smiling. Posted by Kris on Nov 25th, 2009 6 comments. How can I sing with confidence? How can I NOT be sooooo nervous? How can I sing in front of a group of people and not feel like I’m going to pass out? Ok – well maybe you don’t feel like you ever ask that last one. :-). Do you look confident? Breathe low and use all your air! Use all your air then breathe or as my friend has renamed this the “Use It or Lose It” breathing method- I described this on the Basic Breathing blog post. Use your music or cheat sheet.

Posted by Kris on Sep 1st, 2009 4 comments. During most every workshop I teach, I usually talk about three breathing methods. The one I’ll briefly touch on here is the “use all your air before you breathe again” method. I know, I should come up with another name for that! By the way, this works great for running and hiking too. Jim and I love to hike at higher altitudes and this is a form of compression breathing. So I get to practice it while I’m not singing too! 8211; Kris –. Great advice, my friend!

Your pitch will become more accurate as well. One other added benefit is not only for you but also for whoever is watching you – it now seems that you are enjoying singing. Imagine that! I’m sure you do like singing, so now you will just appear that way too. :-). It seems that smiling has other benefits as well! A: So tenors can understand them.
