This photoblog charts the creation of the Treanors' Grand Design in Kaitoke, New Zealand 1 year from the start of our search for a piece of land to build a house and live the country lifestyle. After seeing around 20 sections and one failed purchase, we finally bought 2.6 hectares on the Kaitoke Loop Road on 1 March 2007. One week later the build was underway and is expected to last around 6 months to complete. Then we'll really start living the dream here in New Zealand.

Sunday, 23 September 2007. New building coming soon. We were told that our barn kit would arrive week commencing 24 September so fingers crossed that might be happening. If you want to see what it looks like, click on the link for our Builders of Our Heritage Barn. Week 27: Starting to come together. Friday, 30 November 2007. It's all in the preparation. I know from bitter experience of what can happen with a clay garden if you don't prepare well. We're not making that mistake again here so Paul Cameron Landscapers are hard a work spreading our carefully kept topsoil into the new beds. That is of course after the gypsom on the base where the clay is too. I'll be mulching that pretty well I can tell you, don't fancy all the weeding that will be involved. Wednesday, 25 July 2007. Week 20: Still progressing nicely. Sorry about the break in photoblogging on house progress this will be resumed again in a week or so. The Moss Bros team continue to beaver away and I understand progress is good. Good progress on the garden too. Jamie Reid has put together a fantastic plan for us which is now subject to a reality check of pricing! And, building consent has been applied for a shining red heritage barn. Saturday, 14 July 2007. Monday, 25 June 2007. Week 16: windows at last. Most of the windows have been installed this week and hopefully the doors will come soon. It's really transformed the outside already. More importantly I think it's going to transform the temperature for Chris and the team to be working on site as they face the bitter winds of winter. Same weekly view but with windows. Michael and Andrea's House at Kaitoke. Kaitoke is a small community about 50 kilometers north of Wellington, New Zealand. At the end of 1998 we bought a 10 acre lifestyle block there, and began looking for the perfect house to have moved to it. Outside, I've built railing and steps on the right-hand verandah, and I'm building a wooden fence down both sides of the driveway, and will eventually split the area between the road and the house into five paddocks, and put sheep or cows in them.
