Jamie Garrod: February 2011
http://jamiegarrod.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
A small edit of some mates and I doing some jumps, trying to gain super hero status some other way other than kayaking because it's been a bit dry recently. it didn't really end well for me but Ryan Lucas is still shredding trying to out do me before my face heals! Good times in Okere Massive! NZ River Series - Wainui River. Until then, here are some pictures from Lake Waikaremoana where I get to make ends meet. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). A short write up in a local paper about our favorite Kaimai run. In search of the Bay's wildest water. Some of the best kayaking creeks on the planet are right here in the Bay - all you need is a lot of rain, as Jamie Troughton writes. For 360 days of the year, the Wainui River near Apata barely gets above a trickle. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Come on a trip! And I also work rafting. To the Antarctic we go. West Cherry Creek ness. Team Kiwi adopted in a co. This is a super fam.

A Family Trip - Tararua Southern Crossing. Happy photo of Nicole and I with some views that came and went and came and went and…. This is my Uncle Mike and I having a well deserved breather on the way up Judd Ridge. I bet he was wandering what he had gotten himself in for by this stage already having concerns that his heart would jump out of his chest. And then there was me hobbling along behind with a crook knee. What a view though (again, coming and going with cloud swirling). And then it came back!

Cool storms rolling by in Moab, Utah. Captain Ahab Trail, Moab, Utah. Nicole coming down Joe's Ridge. Chilling out at camp in the afternoon heat. Super fun and swoopy descents. A cool view point just before the top of Tabagouche Trail. The morning after with the car packed and snowy. Driving over Rabit Pass to Steamboat. Come on a trip! Its s...

A different pace through Glacier NP. Walk walk walk. So the adventure began with a backpack full of delicious bacon and eggs, fresh veges etc etc so that we could make any other hikers jealous of our menu… turns out we started getting a little nervous making our bagels on the track when we were spreading aromas where we had seen bear shit and prints. We could only hope that they were just from Black Bears (the cute cuddly looking ones). Anyway, on our merry way we went. Dead trees from the geothermalness.

End of the tour with Upper Cherry. What better way to end the season than a chill run on Upper Cherry with a massive crew of mates! The plan was to rally at some ridiculous hour but we ended up leaving a little later at the more respectable hour of 5.30am, 10 miles of hiking, and then 1.5 hours of sleeping at the put in while everyone trickled in. We also arrived to find the flow on the low side of good, but that's ok because it is perfect for Cherry Bomb! Then before we ran out of water, on the third da...

Here is just one last little piece of goodness that Ben Brown put together from the run at the start of the week. Be careful, it may cause extreme excitement! Which means that the population of the falls shrinks considerably, kayaking gear never drys, but that's because we get heaps more rain! Big (white) water is in abundance in there, perfect! Here are a couple of photos from Brad (B.L.) and Greg Thomas (G.T), they give you a good idea of what this stout run has to offer. Pic - B.L. Pic - G.T. Ryan loo...
