Heads, shoulders… | Notes from an Opoto in Kambia
https://opoto.wordpress.com/2007/12/30/30-december
Notes from an Opoto in Kambia. New Year’s Eve →. Heads, shoulders…. December 30, 2007. Our last day in Barmoi and we finish filming early, so we stick around and have some fun. We decide to film the children running behind the ambulance (in a bit of a comic relief moment) to end the film. We pay the Barmoi actors and get them to sign release forms. Everyone seems to be either a Bangura or a Kamara. 8216;feedin’ money and 10,000 Leones. Adopted daughter who plonks herself on my lap and proceeds to examine...

https://opoto.wordpress.com/before-you-visit
Notes from an Opoto in Kambia. We did have local food too (including unLucky the goat), but were especially glad of taking treats to stuff and to share. 50% Deet to fend off mosquitoes (warning if it spills it will burn through plastic). Double bed sheet/sheet sleeping bag. Pillow (there are some there but they are pretty hard). Solar mobile phone charger ( Freeloader. Worked well for us). By evening you can have a scalding shower). Laughing Cow (this stuff is indestructible). An afternoon in paradise.

Breakdowns and baby snatching | Notes from an Opoto in Kambia
https://opoto.wordpress.com/2008/01/02/02-january
Notes from an Opoto in Kambia. New Year’s Day. Party ambulance →. Breakdowns and baby snatching. January 2, 2008. In the afternoon we head to some scrub land to film the first part of the Sick Pekin film. For this we need a pekin (baby). We mention this to Israel en route and he stops the ambulance, jumps out and grabs a nearby baby. He plonks it on my lap and we drive on. Without the mother. Not exactly equity guidelines but no-one seems worried. This entry was posted in Kambia. New Year’s Day.

January | 2008 | Notes from an Opoto in Kambia
https://opoto.wordpress.com/2008/01
Notes from an Opoto in Kambia. Monthly Archives: January 2008. January 8, 2008. After a great night’s sleep we head down to breakfast and the Bintumani lets us down a little. The dining room is dark with fake flowers sellotaped to the walls and there is sadly no fruit or fruit juice, just toast, cornflakes and powdered milk. An afternoon in paradise. January 7, 2008. As we leave, the friendly owner of the Hard Rock Cafe shows us her guest rooms. Clean and modestly furnished rooms looking over the bay...

Notes from an Opoto in Kambia. We didn’t really have any problems making ourselves understood, so this list is a little feeble. Many people in Kambia speak English or you can get by as Krio is somewhat similar (try adding an o on the end or reducing your sentence to one word! Also in Timne –.
