Where to start with this post? 160; So much to write about…. so much happened in such a short time, it was, well, an adventure…. Funky stack with hole in the middle. Paddling Orkney and beyond. A paddler's journey through all things paddlesport. Sunday, 17 June 2012. And I were booked to go to Sanday to do a weekend of kayak coaching with pool sessions and outdoor sessions from Friday night onwards. The famous Orcadian weather gods, however, had other ideas and, with a lovely F5 forcast, we decided to pull the plug on the event on Thursday. After a little bit of tidying, I unearthed all manner of things in my hallway, including a set of solar powered fairy lights...

Paddling Orkney and beyond. A paddler's journey through all things paddlesport. Monday, 28 May 2012. Some time ago, it was decided to organise a KKC paddling trip on the north and west coast of Scotland. At some point, Hairyaker. Said ‘we could round Cape Wrath’ which seemed to lead to me saying I wasn’t coming unless we went round Cape Wrath. This was in the middle of weeks of howling northerly gales. Like that was going to happen. Hold up on the shuttle run. We were in our t-shirts and shorts! We st...

Paddles with an Anas acuta: October 2013
http://paddleswithananasacuta.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Paddles with an Anas acuta. Unashamedly biased toward the sea kayak of that name (actually the voyages of two boats, one 'traffic over gold', one 'quill'). Tuesday, 15 October 2013. Shetland: Sunny again on Yell. A few days later we were back on Yell, camping at Cullivoe,. Between Gutcher and Gloup. It was the usual sunny start as we criss-crossed Bluemull Sound looking at the Unst coast as well as Yell. The forecast was for rapid deterioration as a sou-wester came in, but the north coast was sheltered.

Saturday, 20 April 2013. There were big rafts of fulmars just offshore. These ones were forming ever-changing patterns as they were carried on the swells. It was sunny, but extremely windy on top of the cliffs, and we couldn't sit at our favourite 'viewing spot' as it wouldn't have been safe. Instead we moved further along the coast and found some shelter behind some gorse, where we could both enjoy the coconut smell of the gorse, and the clear views along the coast towards Pennan and Fraserburgh.
