The Sewing Lawyer

Tuesday, February 27, 2018. I saw this item. At Lee Valley tools. It's a plastic bucket that slips into a neoprene sleeve which fastens to a belt with clips of some kind. It's supposed to be used in the garden. But I balked at the price ($31.50). Today I was at the dollar store and I spotted this cute plastic basket for a tiny bike. (Barbie! I threaded a thin belt through the plastic strips that are supposed to attach it to handlebars. Links to this post. More jeans, blue this time. Links to this post.

The Sewing Lawyer: Back to regularly scheduled programming...

http://kaythesewinglawyer.blogspot.com/2015/06/back-to-regularly-scheduled-programming.html

Monday, June 15, 2015. Back to regularly scheduled programming. That speech I copied and pasted into my blog two weeks ago on the spur of the moment sort of went viral. Evidently there are a lot of quilters out there, although as many commenters said, the sentiments are relevant to all sorts of sewing/knitting enthusiasts. Welcome to the new readers who might not previously have visited The Sewing Lawyer! I hope you stick around. In other news, I made some pants! Except for the waistband. I use a two...

The Sewing Lawyer: December 2014

http://kaythesewinglawyer.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, December 31, 2014. Do you remember that coat. Come to think of it, that was almost 2 months ago. do you remember The Sewing Lawyer? It isn't a hard pattern. The body went together really quickly, once I got past all those buttonholes (6 down the front, 2 on the collar, 2 on the pocket flaps). And then I decided to do 3 on each sleeve, because I am a glutton for punishment. And I was on a roll. If you are counting, that's a total of 18 bound buttonholes. And turn them and press. I am hand sewin...

The Sewing Lawyer: Vogue 1440 - the shirt

http://kaythesewinglawyer.blogspot.com/2015/08/vogue-1440-shirt.html

Saturday, August 8, 2015. Vogue 1440 - the shirt. When Vogue had one of its pattern sales earlier this year, I scooped up V1440. My online acquisition decisions are ephemeral it seems. I have to assume I bought it for the shirt because (a) fringe trim (UGH) and (b) The Sewing Lawyer does not need a Vogue pattern to make leggings (oh sorry, "close fitting tapered pants"). Here's the back and side views. See what I mean? Shortening it. The model on the pattern envelope is clearly an amazon. I'm not...Reduc...

The Sewing Lawyer: True confessions

http://kaythesewinglawyer.blogspot.com/2015/07/true-confessions.html

Sunday, July 5, 2015. The Sewing Lawyer has been sewing for (conservatively) 40 years. So she should know better. Really. Remember those two identical pairs of usefully neutral jeans. I always interface the waistband to ensure it does not stretch. The pants are made from the same pattern. You'd think these two factors would ensure perfection every time. Nope, "getting it the right length" involved trial and error in every single case. Do you know what? On the top are the most recently made ones. I di...

The Sewing Lawyer: Amazing turnaround

http://kaythesewinglawyer.blogspot.com/2015/05/amazing-turnaround.html

Tuesday, May 19, 2015. My shoulder width fix (removing about 1.5cm or 5/8" of width from the front armscye and slightly less in back, tapering to nothing at the bottom of the armhole) worked brilliantly. So much so that I was able to convince myself to spend an entire day of my long weekend in my sewing room and to push through to the finish. And as these things often turn out, after so many days of serious doubt and funk, I love my new coat! So here it is. It fits me in the shoulders! I thought the coat...

Mpressive Threadz Studio Blog. Sharing my love of sewing. New Year and New Laughs. January 1, 2014. Each year brings ups and downs, joy and pain. 2013 was no different. I did not do a lot of writing to this blog in 2013. It was a year full of changes. I went back to school to pursue my degree, I received a promotion on my job, and every few weeks I found myself on an airplane. I started off 2013 with an empty nest and ended the year with a FULL house. And Happy New Year! Stir together and set aside:.

Dirty Runner: Details are frilling!

http://thedirtyrunner.blogspot.com/2011/04/details-are-frilling.html

Tuesday, April 12, 2011. Pardon the absolutely cheesy title. But have you tried to sew? Have you tried to design? Baby it's tough. It's not easy. But like other forms of artwork, the mastery is in the details. It becomes fashion or style when attention is paid to tiny details, like in the Nike skirt above or dress below. This dress is fresh! Mpressive Threadz Studio Blog. Sharing my love of sewing. April 15, 2013. Operation Pretty and Polished is an event that allows students to select free prom outfits. Sewing Solo: Fabulous Bread

http://sewingsolo.blogspot.com/2010/03/fabulous-bread.html

Sunday, March 14, 2010. Isn't this a beautiful loaf of bread? It truly does only take a few minutes of effort, but because of the long rising period, this isn't something that you whip up at the last minute. The only special equipment you need is a reasonable quality cast iron Dutch oven (crucial for the baking technique utilized), and other than that a wooden spoon, a large bowl and away you go (unless you are truly lazy and use your stand mixer). Sewing Solo: Doris Day Redux

http://sewingsolo.blogspot.com/2010/03/doris-day-redux.html

Saturday, March 20, 2010. I have lusted after a leopard print jacket ever since I say Doris Day in Pillow Talk years and years and years ago. Do you remember the film? Even though it isn't really an animal print fabric, I think it has that look. The fabric and style are a bit out of my comfort zone (black, and black and then more black and structured) however, I am looking forward to wearing the jacket with my black skinny jeans and flats. My Little Sewing Alcove: My sewing room....project.

http://littlesewingalcove.blogspot.com/2011/10/my-sewing-roomproject.html

Saturday, October 22, 2011. My sewing room.project. Thought I'd share with you what I've been up to these past few days.amazing what some time off from work produces, besides very sore muscles from moving things I should not be moving! It was cramped, alongside a single bed.but I loved my little corner of the world. Did alot of staring out the back window instead of sewing.inspiration? Ya, maybe.right. I've already taken my machines up and will take a pic when it's set up. Oct 22, 2011, 7:20:00 PM. But I...

My Little Sewing Alcove: Jean Jacket M5860 done.

http://littlesewingalcove.blogspot.com/2011/11/jean-jacket-m5860-done.html

Monday, November 21, 2011. Jean Jacket M5860 done. It's complete. I'm pretty happy with the results, although the pockets look huge in this picture. The color is a dark Army green, which my camera did not pick up. I topstitched it in a light green. The buttons are from my stash and as I said before, the fabric was given to me.bonus! Next up, another blazer for work.that is, when I go back! I love a jean jacket. Olive green is a good color for one too. Nice job! Nov 25, 2011, 7:13:00 AM. SEW MUCH TO SEW.

My Little Sewing Alcove: Butterick Jacket and Vest Done

http://littlesewingalcove.blogspot.com/2011/12/butterick-jacket-and-vest-done.html

Tuesday, December 6, 2011. Butterick Jacket and Vest Done. Amongst the fabric my sister gave me, she also gave me patterns. In the box I found this jacket and thought it was really cute. Not sure how old it is or if they even print it anymore. I decided on the red one. I added about two inches to the hemline. This picture is up close so you can see the fabric better. Even if I wear a different color top, no one will even know. I just got a new job.so one more thing to wear! Dec 6, 2011, 7:48:00 PM. Widge...

My Little Sewing Alcove: Brother PE500 Embroidery machine

http://littlesewingalcove.blogspot.com/2015/02/brother-pe500-embroidery-machine.html

Sunday, February 1, 2015. Brother PE500 Embroidery machine. On an impulse, I purchased this machine last Fall. Not sure of it, the jury is still out. I bought it refurbished from Amazon. Works amazing. But, did I really need it? NO Guess I needed a "happy" in my life, living with someone for 40 years, then BAM alone, will do it every time. Oh well, guess it makes it unique. It's for my grandsons.I still have to put a backing on it. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). My Little Sewing Alcove.

My Little Sewing Alcove: It's been 3 years.....

http://littlesewingalcove.blogspot.com/2015/01/its-been-3-years.html

Saturday, January 31, 2015. It's been 3 years. Hello all. It's been a long time since I've posted. A lot has happened in these three years. I want to start sewing and writing again. I always had so much fun creating garments and reading about yours. In these past years, I lost my husband and best friend to an illness. That was the hardest thing I've gone through. A month before our 40th wedding anniversary.never made it. Of course all the while listening to some good tunes. Feb 3, 2015, 8:56:00 AM. Gerti...
