Throwdown in The Village. Random observations from scenic Prairie Village Kansas. Tuesday, November 25, 2008. The Better Half and I were fortunate enough to be offered tix to the first of the two Smashing Pumpkins shows at the Midland Theater. In downtown Kansas City. Neither of us are what you would call huge fans, but we had a long weekend and a free night on the town was just the ticket. Links to this post. Sunday, November 23, 2008. Now, one trip to Costco does not a trend make. but a few years a...

Thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Tuesday, May 31, 2011. Random Text-Based Google Voicemail. Google Voice offers the option of getting a voice-to-text "translation" sent to your email when someone leaves a message. Here's one that I received over the weekend:. Tuesday, May 31, 2011. The Google voicemail translations are hilarious. It is amazing what Google thinks my mom says. You did what with who! May 31, 2011 at 2:28 PM. June 1, 2011 at 4:17 PM. kansas city soil: June 2005
http://kansascitysoil.blogspot.com/2005_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, June 29, 2005. I know that sometimes I come off like a left-wing sheep. If it's liberal, I'm for it. Truth is, I would probably be Republican if Republicans acted more like Republicans. When I heard about the Supreme Court's unfortunate eminent domain decision, my first thought was, if Thomas and Scalia voted for that, I'm gonna be pissed. To me, that would have proven, once and for all, that it's 1984, and two plus two really does equal five. Ugh I'm not being very articulate here. I've got s...

kansas city soil: August 2005
http://kansascitysoil.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 31, 2005. Swear, I've got the social graces of a traffic cone. Last night was Whitney Terrell's big hometown second-novel party night, with a reading at Unity Temple and a reception at a loft in the Crossroads District. Allie and I went to both. She said, hopefullly, "I have my check book. Maybe they'll take that.". Cool," I said. "We can at least offer, and we won't look like total dicks.". Maybe I should go to charm school. Taking you to a memorable, off-the-beaten path watering hole every week. The Scheme - Salina, KS. October 27, 2008 1:00 AM. Having spent the entire day on the road, we were starving by the time we arrived at The Scheme. And were excited to find a bar that was serving food. Unfortunately we arrived ten minutes before closing time. No matter, the owner was going to have to stay late anyway, so he offered to make us a pizza as long as we got the order in immediately. "Large pepperoni! The art adorning the w...
