Forgefire: Nokia Lumia 1020 on T-Mobile
http://forgefire.blogspot.com/2014/01/nokia-lumia-1020-on-t-mobile.html
Saturday, January 18, 2014. Nokia Lumia 1020 on T-Mobile. Over the Christmas holidays I bought the Nokia Lumia 1020 and signed up for T-Mobile. I’ve been using my phone constantly for about two months and I’m fairly satisfied with the experience, overall. Every now and then I like to post a tech article on my blog, so I decided to make a list of everything that’s gone right and everything I wish I could change. So, why would you want to pick T-Mobile over AT&T? Second, T-Mobile’s data rates more th...

Thursday, May 15, 2014. Writer's Ramble: Writing a Satisfying Ending. My wife picked up a collection of short stories by H. P. Lovecraft, and came across a story she really liked. Lovecraft did a really good job, until the story came to an abrupt end when—from out of nowhere—a lightning bolt burns down the house and everything inside it, including the main character. 8212;H. P. Lovecraft, The Picture in the House. My wife’s reaction was classic: “…uh, seriously? Fortunately, you have tools. I could write...

Forgefire: My Reading List For 2014
http://forgefire.blogspot.com/2015/01/my-reading-list-for-2014.html
Sunday, January 4, 2015. My Reading List For 2014. This year I tried to read A LOT, and I did. Here’s what I read, in no particular order. Bud, Not Buddy. This book is an excellent example of narrative voice, and the main character has a lot of charisma. It’s about a young black orphan named Bud Caldwell living in the early 1900s, who is trying to find his father. It’s a children’s book, and a winner of the Newberry award and the Coretta Scott King award. Five stars. Howl’s Moving Castle. 8220;It was a b...

Forgefire: December 2014
http://forgefire.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Monday, December 8, 2014. Plain Talk on Using Said. Let’s talk about dialog in writing. More to the point, let’s talk about how to skillfully use (or not use) the word ‘said’. I started reading Stephen King’s book, On Writing. Looking for sage pearls of wisdom. Perhaps it was the ADD, or perhaps it was impatience on my part, but I got half-way through the book and decided that the best way to study Stephen King was to read. 8220;It’s time to go,” Julie said. Ok, that’s out of the way. Etc Again, there is...

Forgefire: Writer's Ramble: Hints and Tips for Winning Writers of the Future
http://forgefire.blogspot.com/2013/02/writers-ramble-hints-and-tips-for.html
Monday, February 25, 2013. Writer's Ramble: Hints and Tips for Winning Writers of the Future. This year at LTUE. I attended a panel on the Writers of the Future contest. Speaking on the panel was David Farland / Wolverton. The coordinating judge for the contest. Also on the panel were former contest winners, Brad R. Torgersen. And Eric James Stone. David Farland opened up the contest to questions after a short introduction, and we had about 45 minutes to thoroughly pick his brain. Your story must be a wo...
