Design and Technology is compulsory in Year 8. The aim of the curriculum is to further expand the pupilâ s knowledge of Design and Technology through designing, making, testing and evaluating products. Key features of the curriculum are:. 2 lessons per fortnight. A working knowledge of the properties of common woods, metals and plastics. Confidence and skills when using hand and machine tools. Your examination will be held in your normal Technology lesson. It has 6 sections:. This section will test your knowledge and understanding of the workshop rules for health and safety. This section will test your knowledge and understanding of safety signs, symbols and logos that you have studied and designed this year. This section will test your knowledge and understanding of the simple electronics used in your key fob project. Ferrous metals contain iron, eg. mild steel, stainless steel, cast iron.

Design and Technology is compulsory in Year 7.
