Baked Mains – A cooking blog - Kitchenist

https://www.kitchenist.com/cooking/category/baked-mains

Presentation time: Squash Boats with Quinoa Salad. I don’t do a lot of “presentation” with my cooking. In a lot of ways, that’s not really like me; as an art-school girl who went from fashion to photography to interior design, I’m big into aesthetics. But I prefer to rely on a pretty bowl. Or the natural vibrance of my ingredients. To add interest to my meals. I guess I’m just lazy. Read more…. Posted in Baked Mains. On November 19th, 2010 by Ele. Hmmm Corn, blueberries, dark-skinned cucumber… wait, did I miss summer? Last time I posted a veg haul ’round these parts, it was the early-summer stuff of fresh greens, baby carrots and peas. A whole. Posted in Farmer's Market. On August 29th, 2011 by Ele. Peas & Carrots & Other Veg. Hmm, looking at that photo, I’m thinking that I should have bought a bit more at the market this weekend. Good Canadian: Pumpkin, Feta and Chive Scones. I take my role as Canadian expat pretty seriously, and I’m not half bad at it. I’ve resisted the mid-Atlantic accent, retaining at least 90% of my Canuck twang, I can name more than ten NHL players off the top of my head, and at least half of the music on my ipod is Canadian (hey, I’m living proof that cancon. Pear and Maple Syrup Cake – A cooking blog - Kitchenist

Pear and Maple Syrup Cake. I should begin with a caveat: I’m not really one for birthday cakes. Oh, I like eating them alright, but I rarely make the things, for myself or anyone else. I wish I could be like Deb. Both of whom take the birthday cake tradition seriously, whipping up multi-layered. Concoctions for their loved ones. Or even like my sister. Who made a tasty, if untraditional orange bundt cake. Though I have produced several batches of much-appreciated birthday brownies. 3 Tbs maple syrup.

Something old, something new: Spicy Stir-fried Sprout Tops – A cooking blog - Kitchenist

https://www.kitchenist.com/cooking/main/something-old-something-new-spicy-stir-fried-sprout-tops/1929

Something old, something new: Spicy Stir-fried Sprout Tops. Nope, no one’s getting hitched- I’m just pondering the age-old question of what to do with experimental ingredients. Let’s say you’ve bought something entirely new-to-you; do you stretch your culinary muscles with an interesting recipe? Or do you use the newcomer in something tried and true, to lessen its “newness” and test whether you like it or not? I’ve been intrigued by these flower-like greens for a few years now; something this pretty.

Having rather a lot of Kikkoman’s reduction left over (the thinned out version from brushing the dumplings, here. And remembering I had mushrooms and rye bread to use up, this one was a bit of a no-brainer, but I really have to share. 1 pack chestnut mushrooms, quartered. 2 banana shallots, cut in half lengthways and sliced thinly. 2 – 3 tbs olive oil. 2 tbs Kikkoman’s reduction (or you could use 2 tsp Kikkoman’s plus 2 tsp aged balsamic). 2 slices rye bread. Then stir in the yoghurt. Dedicated to Nigel ...

Just Click Your Heels 123: One week

http://justclickyourheels123.blogspot.com/2011/12/one-week.html

Just Click Your Heels 123. Friday, 30 December 2011. Can you believe it? Almost a whole week has gone by. This time last week I was. At the allotment harvesting my Brussels sprouts ready for Christmas Day. And tugging my red cabbages out of the ground. You just can't beat braised red cabbage - delish! Gazing at the decorations on our tree, reminiscing and wondering HOW it was Christmas 2011. Didn't the year just fly by? Imagining all the food that we would be tucking into the next day. Hi, I'm Liz! Lovel...

Just Click Your Heels 123. Monday, 31 December 2012. With only a few hours left to go of 2012 here is my review of the year. One of the early highlights of the year was celebrating Mr C's grandparents' 60th wedding anniversary. It was lovely visiting Yorkshire, where they live. The day after the event we went to Howarth. How I love this place. Soon after this we moved in with Mr C's parents! A couple of months later we moved in to our new home! We were most excited to own a garden! I have to admit that I...

Everyone needs a few healthy obsessions. Monday, January 15, 2007. Roasted Butternut Squash and Garlic Soup. When I went through the weeks-long process of buying this stick blender, almost two years ago, I said "Now we can make butternut squash soup! And we got the blender, and we made tomato soup, and we made potato leek soup, and we used its other attachments to chop onions and cheese and to grind Caprial Spice (a story for another post) and to whip cream . but we never made butternut squash soup.

March always makes me think of lamb. "In like a lion, out like a lamb" as the saying goes, which seems to be holding true considering the nasty windstorm that hit us over the weekend! Made with ground lamb. In my last post. Which was so helpful during this process! 1 lb ground lamb or beef. Kosher salt, to taste. Neutral cooking oil, as needed. 1 red onion, diced. 1 red bell pepper, diced. 3 cloves garlic, grated. 2" knob fresh ginger, grated. 1 scotch bonnet, minced. 1 tbsp tomato paste. 2 to 3 hours.
