It's still delicious. I Have Not Been Cooking. November 18, 2011. It’s sad, really, but the extent of my creativity these days is “Cook cauliflower. Dump in pasta. Eat.”. I have, however, been running, and if you’re into that sort of thing, I’m now chronicling those stories over at Every Day is Another Dumb Adventure. Good Ol’ Meatballs. October 20, 2011. I have a habit of buying ground beef or turkey, using a little bit of it, freezing the rest, and forgetting about it for…months? I’ve used Bittman.

Spicy Ginger Chicken | Eating My Mistakes
https://eatingmymistakes.wordpress.com/2011/09/13/spicy-ginger-chicken
It's still delicious. September 13, 2011. And last week, I finally did it. At some point, maybe late 2006, I started to collect dessert recipes. And 2009 to the present brought more elaborate recipes things from Food and Wine and the New York Times, things involving lamb and immersion blenders and more than 45 minutes in the kitchen. I found the wrinkled original of garden lasagna. And Jane and lovely party plans from Budget Living. (I kept them all.). Dinner from Real Simple (2006! What’s below is...

Cheeses I Have Made | Eating My Mistakes
https://eatingmymistakes.wordpress.com/2011/09/15/cheeses-i-have-made
It's still delicious. Cheeses I Have Made. September 15, 2011. This was the first cheese I made after getting the crazy idea to make cheese put in my head when reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. I got a hard cheese kit. For Christmas that year, but I guess I hadn’t realized how long it took to make hard cheeses, so I punked out and did the 30-Minute Mozzarella. If you perhaps aren’t sure what is and is not technically ricotta, the nearly 500 comments on this Smitten Kitchen post. Told me to) and transfe...

Cauliflower, Shrimp, and Chickpea Stew | Eating My Mistakes
https://eatingmymistakes.wordpress.com/2011/09/26/cauliflower-shrimp-and-chickpea-stew
It's still delicious. Cauliflower, Shrimp, and Chickpea Stew. September 26, 2011. I have no idea how to cook for one. To be honest, I have no idea how to cook for two, either, but at least when I’m cooking for two, there are twice as many people eating the leftovers. When it’s just me, well, give me 48 hours and I’m drowning in food. The basic idea came from this Real Simple recipe. To be removing tomato skins tomato newbie. Even by week-of-many-leftovers standards, this held up well in the fridge and wa...

Orzo with White Beans and Tuna | Eating My Mistakes
https://eatingmymistakes.wordpress.com/2011/10/12/orzo-with-white-beans-and-tuna
It's still delicious. Orzo with White Beans and Tuna. October 12, 2011. Individually, I hate two out of the four main ingredients in this recipe. Tuna stinks. To be honest, I’m not sure if I actually believe tuna stinks; what I know. Is that at some point when I was a child one of my parents made a comment about tuna stinking, and from then on, I believed wholeheartedly in the stinkiness of tuna. I can count on one finger the number of times canned tuna has entered my house unless you count cat food.

Good Ol’ Meatballs | Eating My Mistakes
https://eatingmymistakes.wordpress.com/2011/10/20/good-ol-meatballs
It's still delicious. Good Ol’ Meatballs. October 20, 2011. I have a habit of buying ground beef or turkey, using a little bit of it, freezing the rest, and forgetting about it for…months? Until the next time we move? I’m trying to be better about rescuing it before that point, though, and so when I found myself with some odds and ends recently a little turkey, a little beef I decided to thaw them overnight and see where inspiration took me. I can’t believe how sad tomatoes look already! 1/2 c chopped on...

Cornflake Buttermilk Chicken | Eating My Mistakes
https://eatingmymistakes.wordpress.com/2011/07/31/cornflake-buttermilk-chicken
It's still delicious. July 31, 2011. OK, so the whole “I don’t cook meat very often” thing might be looking like a bit of a lie right now. The thing is, about a week ago, I ate some amazing chicken at Indie Mart. Chicken is probably my least-favorite meat to eat, so for me to describe it as “amazing” is really saying something. My friend speculated it had been marinated in buttermilk, and I had some buttermilk in the fridge, and that was all I needed to hear. Adapted from The Neelys. Juice from 1 lemon.

Kitchen Failure Hall of Fame: Shrimp Cakes | Eating My Mistakes
https://eatingmymistakes.wordpress.com/2011/09/28/kitchen-failure-hall-of-fame-shrimp-cakes
It's still delicious. Kitchen Failure Hall of Fame: Shrimp Cakes. September 28, 2011. Ever since I started this blog, I’ve been lucky in the kitchen. Freakishly lucky. My pizzas have slid easily onto their stones, my seasonings have mostly meshed, and aside from the occasional sauce slip-up, everything’s gone more or less according to plan. This is not how my life is. So, I’m bringing things back down to earth with a little trip down kitchen disaster memory lane. First up: shrimp cakes. I did not just ge...

Curried Eggplant with Spinach | Eating My Mistakes
https://eatingmymistakes.wordpress.com/2011/08/10/curried-eggplant-with-spinach
It's still delicious. Curried Eggplant with Spinach. August 10, 2011. Before I continue on with carb-fest 2011. How about an actual dinner? I’d never cooked eggplant before we started getting it in our CSA box a couple of years ago. I had no idea what to do with the thing, and so I was lucky that an issue of Food and Wine arrived almost immediately with what quickly became my go-to eggplant recipe. There was a point in the winter of 2010 that I think we were eating this at least once a week! 7 Working in...

Tomato and Mozzarella Tart with Cornmeal Parmesan Crust | Eating My Mistakes
https://eatingmymistakes.wordpress.com/2011/08/30/tomato-and-mozzarella-tart-with-cornmeal-parmesan-crust
It's still delicious. Tomato and Mozzarella Tart with Cornmeal Parmesan Crust. August 30, 2011. Until four years ago, I didn’t like tomatoes. OK, “didn’t like” doesn’t even begin to cover it. More like hated. Despised. Couldn’t even begin to understand the appeal of. In salsa or tomato sauce, they were fine, but a slice of tomato on a sandwich or in a salad? Nasty, nasty stuff. Asked if we wanted to split a flat of gorgeous local tomatoes. The me of four years ago finds this all very amusing. Nights, whe...
