KitsilanoGarden: Garden coming along very nicely!

http://www.kitsilanogarden.blogspot.com/2013/04/garden-coming-along-very-nicely.html

Sunday, 28 April 2013. Garden coming along very nicely! My apple trees are in full bloom now. Not too many insects around, so I'm having to give them a helping hand. All the blossom has gone from the cherry tree, and I think I see a little swelling. Last year we had a to share a single cherry between my wife and I. It was tasty, but I am hoping for a slightly higher yield this growing season. Plenty of flowers appearing on the strawberries in the Wally. Some lovely red blossom on one of the apple trees.

KitsilanoGarden: March 2013

http://www.kitsilanogarden.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 27 March 2013. Time to put some plants outdoors! I made an executive decision this week. I declare that we've seen the last frost in Vancouver already, and that it is time to get planting. So I did! Sunday, 24 March 2013. Side project - the rotten, mossy deck! Tuesday, 19 March 2013. Some plants in my shelter at work survived the winter and are actually growing again now. So I actually got some fresh lettuce for lunch yesterday! Sunday, 17 March 2013. Spring is here - buds appearing! The sage ...

Thursday, 23 May 2013. Leeks, sprouting jars and well-advanced fruit. I'm trying some "sprouting". These photos were a few days ago. I will follow-up with some photos of the results. I harvested my over-wintered leeks this week:. Bed #1 doing very nicely. Time to get munching on the kale. Apples coming along well:. We will get significantly more than ONE cherry this year, unlike last year:. Strawberries starting to swell and turn red:. Lettuce is ready for the first harvest:. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

KitsilanoGarden: Wally Three installed! Blossom.

http://www.kitsilanogarden.blogspot.com/2013/04/wally-three-installed-blossom.html

Saturday, 13 April 2013. Science World here in Vancouver has various outdoor displays - backyard chickens, raised beds and vertical gardening. We've also had the first commercial urban farming system. In North America, in a disused parkade. It was time for me to do some vertical gardening. Google told me that Wooly Pockets. Were the market leader, so I ordered myself a Wally Three. The cherry tree is blossoming nicely. As is the pear tree. And the blackcurrant is doing very well . 13 April 2013 at 08:03.

Because of the beach, because of the tolerance to difference, because of cheap rent, because of the people who already lived here, and just because, Kitsilano was Vancouver s crucible for the 60 s counter culture.
